Hashimoto's thyroiditis has previously been associated with gonadal dysgenesis. Recent evidence suggests that Graves's disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis are disorders of cell-mediated immunity and may have a common genetic predisposition. However, patients with both Graves's disease and the Turner syndrome have been reported only rarely. Three such cases are presented and the relation among g...

Subacute thyroiditis is extremely rare during the first decade of life. We describe a case of subacute thyroiditis in a 2 year old child whose initial clinical, sonographic, and radioisotopic features were indistinguishable from acute suppurative thyroiditis. The diagnosis was established by a raised antibody titre against adenovirus and typical increased thyroid function tests.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between Hashimoto's thyroiditis and BRAF(V600E) mutation status in patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) and to determine their combined association with tumor aggressiveness in PTC. METHODS A total of 1780 patients with PTC who underwent surgery were enrolled in this study. Simple and multiple analyses were performed...

BACKGROUND In recent years, some reports have suggested that papillary thyroid cancers are more frequently associated with lymphocytic thyroiditis or Hashimoto's thyroiditis. This study investigated a potential increase in the prevalence of chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis among papillary thyroid cancer patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS We used national epidemiological survey data on thyroid can...

The influence of 6-mercaptopurine and aminopterin was studied on immune response and immune thyroiditis in guinea pigs immunized with thyroid extract. 1. Both compounds depressed delayed hypersensitivity to thyroglobulin and immune thyroiditis. 2. Antibody formation to thyroglobulin was strongly depressed by aminopterin but not significantly influenced by 6-mercaptopurine. 3. Immune response an...

Early histological changes in the thyroid gland were examined in 30 patients with juvenile thyrotoxicosis, by means of needle biopsy. Based on the degree of lymphocytic infiltration and degenerative changes in follicular epithelium, results were classified into four groups. A: hyperplastic changes without cellular infiltration (6 patients, 20%); B: hyperplastic changes with areas of focal thyro...

The author attempted to realize the accuracy and limitation of the operative biopsy for the diagnosis of Hashimoto's disease. In the 11 cases of total—partial thyroidectomy , there was no essential difference between the histological types of both thyroid lobes. The diagnosis of Hashimoto's disease was obtained in 81 % by single biopsy (a tiny specimen from one lobe through a small incision). T...

BACKGROUND Hashimoto's thyroiditis is the most important cause of hypothyroidism. It is a systemic disease that can even affect the cardiovascular system, by accelerating the atherosclerotic process. Aim of this study was to examine whether autoimmune thyroiditis has an effect on the intima-media thickness of the common carotid artery (IMT-CCT), independently of the thyroid function and well-kn...

Objective(s):The aim of this study was to determine whether technetium (99mTc) uptake is a relevant method for the differential diagnosis of Graves disease and subacute thyroiditis and calculate its cutoff value in case of its relevancy. Methods: A total of 69 patients, who were followed up (>3 months) in our hospital for thyrotoxi...
