A robust controller with chattering is proposed for variable speed control of a two-bladed horizontal axis wind turbine similar to the DOE MOD-0 model. The chattering term provides robustness against un-modeled non-linearities. To validate the performance of the proposed controller, a dynamic wind model has also been developed. This model is based on using an harmonic oscillator with an additiv...
This paper considers power generation control in variable-speed variable-pitch horizontal-axis wind turbines operating at high wind speeds. A dynamic chattering torque control and a proportional integral (PI) pitch control strategy are proposed and validated using the National Renewable Energy Laboratory wind turbine simulator FAST (Fatigue, Aerodynamics, Structures, and Turbulence) code. Valid...
In this research, the blade element momentum (BEM) theory of a horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) with 1 kW power output has been analysed for one station across six geopolitical zones. Twenty years speed data (2000 – 2020) obtained from Nigeria meteorological Agency (NIMET) Head quarter, Abuja. an effort to optimally explore and utilize energy, optimal design needs be obtained. Therefore, com...
The work presented in this article aims to the calculation of the aerodynamic characteristics of the NREL phase II rotor that is a horizontal axis downwind wind turbine rotor and which is assumed to stand isolated in the space. The Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations combined with the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model that describes the three dimensional steady state flow about the wind t...
The lack of energy commodities such as coal and petroleum makes the cost these soar. This event shows how much countries in world are still very dependent on fossil fuels, it is fitting that transition to new renewable can be realized soon, low emission environmentally friendly hope future. Indonesia has a supply sources abundant great force for this clean revolution. momentum presence first wi...
This paper presents a robust control design for variable speed control of a two-bladed horizontal axis wind turbine similar to the DOE MOD-0 model. Robustness is achieved by introducing a sign term to the dynamic error. To simulate numerical experiments that closely approximate the reality, a dynamic oscillator is employed as a source of a time varying wind speed signal.
The reliance on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations has drastically increased over time to evaluate the aerodynamic performance of small-scale wind turbines. With rapid variability in customer demand, industrial requirements, economic constraints, and limitations associated with design development turbines, trade-off between computational resources simulation’s numerical accuracy may...
