Supracondylar fractures of the humerus are the most common fracture pattern of the elbow in children. Severely displaced supracondylar fractures of the distal humerus in children are challenging problems. Many treatment methods have been described for the treatment of displaced supracondylar fractures of the humerus, however, it has not been reached a consensus for the choice of the treatment. ...
Fishtail deformity is a very rare complication of undisplaced supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children. We report the case of a 10-year old girl presenting with pain in the right elbow eight years after a non-displaced supracondylar fracture of the humerus. Radiographs also demonstrated necrosis of the lateral part of the trochlea and of the head of the radius. With this long-term cli...
In this case, a 31 year-old female was diagnosed of isolated fractures of lesser tuberosity humerus. The patient could take early functional training of shoulder joint two days after operation. Although isolated fractures of lesser tuberosity humerus are rare, when pain of anterior shoulder joint after trauma, doctors should consider isolated fractures of lesser tuberosity humerus. As for the t...
Proximal humerus fractures are rarely associated with axillary artery injury. We present a case of a 59-year-old female who had fracture neck humerus along with absent pulsations in the left upper limb after blunt trauma. Computed tomographic angiogram revealed complete occlusion of the left axillary artery. Urgent surgical intervention was done in the form of fixation of fracture followed by e...
The humeral head articulates with the glenoid fossa of the scapula. The anatomical neck separates the greater and lesser tuberosities from the humeral head. The long head of biceps runs between the tuberosities in the bicipital groove, and the surgical neck is just below the greater and lesser tuberosities. The radial nerve runs posteriorly around the middle third of the humeral shaft in the sp...
The proximal humerus internal locking system is an internal fixation device consisting of a low-profile plate and locking screws, which is used for the fixation of three- and four-part fractures of the proximal humerus. We describe a case in which the screws cut out of the humeral head causing injury to the axillary artery necessitating urgent removal of the implant.
Two patients presented with pain in the arm and a radiographic lesion of the upper humerus which warranted surgical exploration and excision biopsy. In both cases the pathology was inflammatory and involved the insertion of pectoralis major. Tendinitis of the pectoralis major with an associated lesion of the humerus has not previously been described.
BACKGROUND Proximal humerus fractures are common problems plaguing the elderly population. PURPOSE The purposes of this study were to determine the outcomes of fibular strut allografts in treatment of proximal humerus fractures with open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) and to present the authors' preferred surgical technique. The hypothesis was that the use of fibular strut allografts in t...
Intercondylar fracture of the distal humerus are uncommon injuries and present the most difficult challenge of the fracture of lower end of humerus. Restoration of the articular surface of distal humerus must be nearly perfect and sufficiently rigid to permit early mobilization of the elbow if the results is to be satisfactory. This is a prospective study of 20 cases of intercondylar fracture o...
Introduction: Humerus shaft fractures in adults can be managed conservatively with functional braces or operatively with plate osteosynthesis or with intramedullary nailing. Conventionally humerus intramedullary nailing is done either using humerus interlocking nails or Enders nails. In this study we analyse the outcome of humerus shaft fractures (upper and middle third) managed with closed ant...
