We present a new mode of observations with VISIR, the mid-InfraRed (mid-IR) imager and spectrometer on the VLT (ESO, Chile): the so-called BURST mode. This mode allows to reach the diffraction limit of the telescope. To illustrate results obtained with this mode, we discuss observations of disks around Herbig Ae stars. The 10-20 μm atmospheric windows are well-suited to study the extended emiss...
We report on a study of the I ′ 5g outer well state of HD. Via a resonance-enhanced XUV + IR (extreme ultraviolet + infrared) excitation scheme, rovibronic levels (v = 0–2, J = 1–4) are populated and probed by pulsed lasers. Level energies are measured with an accuracy of ≈0.03 cm−1. Due to gerade–ungerade symmetry breaking, the long-range behavior of the I ′ potential in HD deviates from that ...
Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) is an optical imaging technique that measures brain activity by monitoring cortical oxygenation changes. It is portable, non-invasive and has good motion tolerance. In the last thirty years, these features have led NIRS to be used in a wide range of applications. This brief review considers the advantages of NIRS and its potential use in psychological research ...
