to determine the degree of susceptibility of an. sacharovi to malathion 5%, fenitrothion 1% and ddt 4% extended studies were carried out on sucked blood engorged mosquitoes collected from dasht argen (fars province) in 1997. testing method was according to standard who method in lots of 25 adults' mosquitoes in 4 replicates. an. sacharovi were touched by malathion 5% and ddt 4% insecticides in ...
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Due to ever growing insecticide resistance in mosquitoes to commonly used insecticides in many parts of the globe, there is always a need for introduction of new insecticides for the control of resistant vector mosquitoes. In this study, larvicidal and adulticidal efficacies of three neonicotinoids (imidacloprid, thiacloprid and thiamethoxam) were tested against resistan...
HOW TO CITE: Brooke BD, Robertson L, Kaiser ML, Raswiswi E, Munhenga G, Venter N, et al. Insecticide resistance in the malaria vector Anopheles arabiensis in Mamfene, KwaZulu-Natal. S Afr J Sci. 2015;111(11/12), Art. #2015-0261, 3 pages. http://dx.doi.org/10.17159/ sajs.2015/20150261 The control of malaria vector mosquitoes in South Africa’s affected provinces is primarily based on indoor spray...
The increase in agricultural production over the past 40 y has greatly altered land-use patterns, often resulting in simplified landscapes composed of large swaths of monocultures separated by small fragments of natural lands. These simplified landscapes may be more susceptible to insect pest pressure because of the loss of natural enemies and the increased size and connectivity of crop resourc...
We conducted standard insecticide susceptibility testing across western Kenya and found that the Anopheles gambiae mosquito has acquired high resistance to pyrethroids and DDT, patchy resistance to carbamates, but no resistance to organophosphates. Use of non-pyrethroid-based vector control tools may be preferable for malaria prevention in this region.
