Maintaining reduction of an acetabular fracture during internal fixation is difficult. A variety of clamps can be used to facilitate reduction, but they are cumbersome and may damage the sciatic nerve. We developed a simple and cost-effective technique for provisional reduction and fixation of acetabular fractures using 2 screws and a tension band wire.
INTRODUCTION Trochanteric fractures are commonly stabilized either by intramedullary nailing or plate and screw fixation after reduction on the orthopaedic surgical table under radiological guidance. HYPOTHESIS Closed trochanteric fracture anatomic reduction is difficult in the transversal plane. OBJECTIVES The objective of this prospective study was to assess the rotational malalignment in...
OBJECTIVES Secondary fracture healing is strongly influenced by the stiffness of the bone-fixator system. Biomechanical tests are extensively used to investigate stiffness and strength of fixation devices. The stiffness values reported in the literature for locked plating, however, vary by three orders of magnitude. The aim of this study was to examine the influence that the method of restraint...
The ideal timing and modality of femur shaft fracture fixation in head-injured patients remains a topic of debate. Several groups advocate the immediate definitive fixation of femur fractures ("early total care"), whereas others support the concept of "damage control orthopaedics" with temporary fracture fixation by means of external fixation and staged, planned conversion to internal fixation....
Introduction: Simultaneous anterior fracture-dislocation of the shoulder and fracture of the ipsilateral humeral shaft results from severe trauma and is very rare. In this report we present such an injury and its treatment. Case Report: A 48-year old man was brought to hospital after a motor bike accident with anterior dislocation of the shoulder and fracture of the ipsilateral humeral shaf...
We describe a case of extensively comminuted mandibular fracture that extends bilaterally to the angle of mandible successfully treated with the use of condylar positioning device (CPD). This simple, yet effective, technique that almost exclusively described in orthognathic surgery is useful when advance surgical techniques such as pre- or intraoperative landmark identification may not be readi...
We have shown how the analysis of the angiotomography reconstruction through OsiriX program has assisted in endovascular perioperative programming. We presented its application in situations when an unexpected existence of metallic overlapping artifact (orthopedic osteosynthesis) compromised the adequate visualization of the arterial lesion during the procedure. Through manipulation upon OsiriX...
The case of a 15-year-old boy, a high-performance motocross rider, who developed bilateral osteochondritis dissecans of the elbow is described. Both lesions were successfully treated by Herbert screw internal fixation.
This study aims at diagnosis and rehabilitation of a rare case of deep wound infection and internal fixation rejection in elbow. The patient sustained a distal fracture in the humerus 1 year ago, which was internal fixed. The wound always effused and the elbow had pain and swelling; joint motion was limited. Blood sedimentation rate and C reactive protein level increased, bacterial culture sugg...
Mode travel time estimation in the presence of internal waves (IWs) is a challenging problem. IWs perturb the sound speed, which results in travel time wander and mode scattering. A standard approach to travel time estimation is to pulse compress the broadband signal, pick the peak of the compressed time series, and average the peak time over multiple receptions to reduce variance. The peak-pic...
