Water can act as a vector for several microbes with significant pathogenic potential both humans and animals. Waterborne infections are critical public health concern they cause more than 3.4 million deaths annually. Total thermotolerant coliforms intestinal enterococci have traditionally been used to assess the quality suitability of drinking water. The aim this study was evaluate microbiologi...

The quality of drinking water is highly dependent on physico-chemical and microbiological characteristics. This study envisaged to determine the consumed by population town Kenitra analyzing following parameters: Conductivity, Turbidity, Temperature, pH, Sulphates, Cadmium, Selenium, Arsenic, Fluorides, Total Iron, Manganese, Chloride Ions, Nitrates, Nitrites, Boron, Nickel, Trihalomethanes, Am...

The activity of the enzyme tryptophanase in the enteric environment was investigated to elucidate the significance of the enzyme in the metabolism of Escherichia coli. The tryptophanase activity, tryptophan content, and indole concentration as well as the numbers of E. coli were determined in the intestinal and fecal contents of conventional, germ-free, and monocontaminated axenic laboratory mi...

Influence of Water Treatment Processes Statistical analyses were conducted with historical data from the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (SCCRWA) to determine if parameters determined in the treatment plants were related in any way to coliform counts in the distribution system. The analysis indicated that sufficient chlorination for maintaining treatment effluent standards fo...

several common approaches are used for disinfection of water in this section, but using the approaches (e.g. chlorination) are accompanied with hazardous by-products and also lead to notable changes in odor and flavor of water. gamma irradiation as an emerging method has been encouraged currently by fao/who for water, wastewater and food treatment. coliform bacteria belong to common contaminant...

OBJECTIVE The presence of coliform bacteria indicates a watershed risk for harboring microbes capable of causing human disease. We hypothesized that water from watersheds that have different human- or animal-use patterns would have differing risks for the presence of coliform bacteria. METHODS; Water was collected in wilderness areas of the Sierra Nevada range in California. A total of 60 sites...

Surface plating of coliforms on Trypticase soy agar, followed by 1 to 2 h of incubation at 25 C and subsequent overlay with violet red bile agar, was found to be a useful method for the repair and enumeration of coliforms injured by freezing.

The accuracy of Colilert-18 as a test for coliforms and Escherichia coli in subtropical freshwater was evaluated by using API 20E strips and fatty acid methyl ester analysis. The false-positive and -negative rates of detection were 7.4 and 3.5%, respectively, for E. coli and 9.6 and 6.3%, respectively, for coliforms.
