We describe a patient with rapidly progressive pneumonia and a high level of serum lactate dehydrogenase, in whom postmortem study revealed the presence of a diffuse, small and large-cell multicentric non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, together with an invasive pulmonary aspergillosis. Aspergillosis is rare as a presenting feature of a lymphoproliferative disease; only one previous case has been reported ...
INTRODUCTION Pulmonary aspergillosis has variable course of illness, severity and outcomes depending on underlying conditions. There is limited data available on the clinical manifestations and outcome of pulmonary aspergillosis from Pakistan. METHODS To determine the clinical manifestations and outcome of pulmonary aspergillosis in a tertiary care hospital a retrospective study was conducted...
Pulmonary aspergillosis in nonimmunocompromised hosts, although rare, is being increasingly recognized. The diagnosis of pulmonary aspergillosis is difficult, since the recovery of Aspergillus from respiratory samples cannot differentiate colonization from invasion. We assessed the role of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in detecting galactomannan (GM) for diagnosing pulmonary aspergillosis in 73 ...
Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is typically caused by a single Aspergillus species, most frequently Aspergillus fumigatus. Here we report that a lung transplant recipient developed invasive aspergillosis due to a mixed infection caused by Aspergillus flavus and A. fumigatus. The implications for this unusual finding are discussed.
Invasive aspergillosis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients. Among primary immunodefiencies, chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) has the highest prevalence of invasive fungal diseases. Voriconazole is recommended for the primary treatment of invasive aspergillosis in most patients. In patients whose aspergillosis is refractory to voriconazole, therapeut...
Chronic necrotizing pulmonary aspergillosis is characterized by a pulmonary infiltration with cavitation in patients with chronic pulmonary disease, slight immunodeficiency or healthy patients. A 57-year-old man with non-small cell carcinoma who has had radiotherapy was admitted with a history of left side pleuritic chest pain, non-productive cough, fever and dyspnea. Aspergillus fumigatus was ...
Invasive aspergillosis is a rare complication in patients with influenza infection. Several cases of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis accompanying influenza infections were reported during the influenza A/H1N1pdm 2009. We encountered a case of acute cerebral aspergillosis in a patient with influenza A/H1N1pdm 2009 infection. A 24-year-old man with uncontrolled diabetes was diagnosed with influe...
OBJECTIVES Invasive aspergillosis (IA) is among the most common invasive fungal infections in neutropenic patients with hematological disorders in the authors' institution, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital (KCMH), Bangkok, Thailand Previous studies have reported the Aspergillus galactomannan enzyme immunosorbent assay (GMEIA) may be a useful diagnostic tool for IA. The authors evaluated the...
BACKGROUND The authors present the high-resolution computed tomography findings of an immunosuppressed patient with semi-invasive pulmonary aspergillosis. CASE PRESENTATION The main finding consisted of irregular, thick-walled cavity in the right upper lobe and a mass with soft-tissue attenuation within it and thickening of adjacent pleura. Additional findings were bronchial wall thickening a...
