Many economists believe that credit market distortions create a financial accelerator which destabilizes the economy. This paper shows that when credit market distortions arise from adverse selection they sometimes stabilize the economy rather than destabilize it. The stabilizing forces are closely related to forces that cause overinvestment in static models. When investment projects are equity...
When capital taxes are used to finance a public good, capital mobility reduces efficiency since it narrows the tax base. This motivates the concern that capital mobility might also interfere with unilateral efforts to provide the public good of environmental quality through pollution taxes. I show in this paper that capital mobility does not affect efficiency in a small open economy, even thoug...

In this paper a pairwise comparison estimation procedure is proposed for the regression coefficients in a censored transformation model. The main advantage of the new estimator is that it can accommodate covariate dependent censoring without the requirement of smoothing parameters, trimming procedures, or stringent tail behavior restrictions. We also modify the pairwise estimator for other vari...
This note provides a new proof of the non–emptiness of the fuzzy core in a pure exchange economy with finitely many agents. The proof is based on the concept of (Π, β)–balanced core for games without side payments due to Bonnisseau and Iehlé (2003). JEL classification codes: D51, C71.
In the aftermath of the global financial crisis questions have been raised regarding the value and applicability of modern macroeconomics. Motivated by these developments and recent advances in dynamical systems theory, the papers in this special issue of Macroeconomic Dynamics deal with specific aspects of the economy as a complex evolving dynamic system. JEL classification: A1, B4, E1, G01.
The ‘noise trader’ model of De Long et al. provides a plausible account of the determination of the equity premium. Extension of the model to allow for privatization of publicly-owned assets yields insights into the positive political economy of privatization and into the normative question of how policies should be evaluated in the presence of mistaken beliefs.
