We apply a full-potential first-principles method to investigate the electronic-structure and elastic features of pure iron and ordered transition metal systems like Fe-Ni and Fe-Mn. The martensitic phase transformations in these compounds mainly depend on the properties of iron. Therefore the phase diagram of iron has been studied in detail in view of structural transformations and magnetic or...

High-entropy alloys receive more attention for high strength, good ductility as well wear resistance. In this work, CoCrFeNiMn high-entropy alloy (HEA) coatings were deposited on compacted graphite iron through plasma transfer arc at different currents. The microstructure and properties of the HEA investigated. are composed single phase with FCC structure. coating had highest microhardness 394 ...

The corrosion resistance of electroless nickel (EN) coatings on ferrous substrates is affected by coating porosity. Carbon and iron carbide are present in the microstructure of ferrous alloys. If the sites of carbon and iron carbide are not catalytically active to EN deposition as the rest of substrate surface, there is a possibility of pore formation on these sites. In the present study, the r...

A significant carbon diffusion mobility acceleration as a result of cyclic γ↔ε martensitic transformations in iron-manganese alloy is determined by one- and two-dimensional structure defects of ε-martensite with face-centered close-packed lattice. Such defects (dislocations, low angle sub-boundaries of dislocations, chaotic stacking faults) were formed during cyclic γ↔ε martensitic transformati...

A number of the papers presented at the International Conference on Magnetism held at the University of Nottingham in September dealt with alloys of the platinum metals. The proceedings will be published shortly by the Institute of Physics and the Physical Society. Papers describing neutron diffraction studies demonstrated the powerfulness of some of the recently developed techniques. Thus G. G...

Wetting of ~975 grain boundaries (GB’s) by liquid Cu in an iron-based alloy has been studied as a function of the five macroscopic degrees of freedom (DoF’s) of grain boundary character. In addition, models of GB energy in terms of all five DoF’s, and o f anisotropic solid-liquid interfacial energy have been developed. The experimentally observed wetting behavior is interpreted in terms of the ...

In this paper, we consider a corrosion model of iron based alloy in nuclear waste repository. It consists in a PDE system, similar to the steady-state drift-diffusion system arising in semiconductors modelling. The main difference lies in the boundary conditions since they are Robin boundary conditions and infer an additional coupling between the equations. Using a priori estimates on the solut...

The effect of T6 heat treatment on the microstructure and wear behavior of Al-332 piston alloy containing 1.2wt% iron was investigated. The results showed that the T6 heat treatment changed the morphology of acicular eutectic Si particles to a more spherical form. The heat treatment also reduced the average length and blunted the needle-like ?- phase intermetallics through dissolution and fragm...
