We show that the widely used Kendall tau correlation coefficient, and the related Mallows kernel, are positive definite kernels for permutations. They offer computationally attractive alternatives to more complex kernels on the symmetric group to learn from rankings, or learn to rank. We study the supersymmetry reach of the Tevatron in channels containing both isolated leptons and identified tau jets. Previous work on the neutrino spectra from high energy sources has not included the tau neutrinos directly produced by the decays in the source. Here we consider the tau neutrino component and discuss how its inclusion modifies the expected neutrino spectra. We discuss implications for interpreting any observed tau neutrino component in TeV UHE events as evidence of νμ → ντ oscillations.
