The Swiss wastewater isolate Klebsiella pneumoniae 704SK6, encoding OXA-48 and CTX-M-15 β-lactamases, was fully sequenced. The assembly resulted in an open chromosome of 5,208,104 bp in size (G+C content, 57.6%) and four closed plasmid sequences of 209,651, 197,670, 65,998, and 63,605 bp in size.
We report here the draft genome sequence of Klebsiella pneumoniae OK8, a multidrug-resistant strain which was isolated in 1976 from a human and is known to be a mouse pathogen.
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative pathogen that has a large accessory genome of plasmids and chromosomal gene loci. This accessory genome divides K. pneumoniae strains into opportunistic, hypervirulent, and multidrug-resistant groups and separates K. pneumoniae from two closely related species, Klebsiella variicola and Klebsiella quasipneumoniae. Some strains of K. pneumoniae act as oppo...
Klebsiella pneumoniae 163 was grown in the presence of 1/4 MIC of cefodizime (CDZM) or cefpimizole (CPIZ) for 3 hours. The killing rate of drug-treated bacteria by human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) was significantly enhanced, compared with that of the untreated bacteria (p<0.01). Study of opsonization kinetics by a chemiluminescence assay demonstrated that drug-treated bacteria were ops...
Extended spectrum beta lactamases (ESBLs) that mediate resistance to 3rd generation cephalosporins are now observed worldwide in all species of Enterobacteriaceae especially Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli. ESBL producing organisms are responsible for nosocomial infections and may result in hospital outbreaks. Present study is a descriptive study. It was planned to determine the freq...
OBJECTIVE(S) Klebsiella infections are caused mainly by K. pneumoniae and K. oxytoca. In the last two decades, a new type of invasive Klebsiella pneumoniae which contains mucoviscosity-associated gene (magA) has emerged. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of magA gene and to detect antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of Klebsiella spp. isolated from clinical samples. MA...
Introduction: Klebsiella pneumoniae has been associated with different types of infections and one of the most important aspects of Klebsiella is the emergence of multi drug resistant strains particularly those involved in nosocomial diseases. Materials and methods: A total number of 800 sputum, 148 pus and 850 urine samples from September 2013 to August 2014 were included in the study. Isolate...
discussion children with congenital heart disease are at risk of acquiring gram-negative endocarditis even if they have not had other predisposing factors. case presentation in this study a ten-year-old boy with ventricular septal defect, who was not immune compromised and acquired klebsiella endocarditis is introduced. the patient had a favorable response to medical treatment and underwent a s...
Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscesses with limited antibiotic resistance have been increasing among diabetics in various geographic regions, most notably in Taiwan. Two cases of Hawaiian diabetic men with Klebsiella pneumoniae primary liver abscesses are presented as well as a brief review of the literature.
