35 Background Stump problems(SPs)secondary to traumatic lower limb amputation had a crucial influence on 36 amputees’ ability to return to living and work. The purpose of this study was to investigate the surgical management 37 strategies of the SPs after above-ankle amputation of the lower limb secondary to trauma. 38 Method A cohort of clinical cases, who were troubled by SPs after above-ankl...

in this study, we investigated variations of the angle between neck and shaft of femur after amputation of tigh above the knee. in amputated tigh the angle between neck and shaft of the femur is decreased than normal (nearly 90° degrees) (coax vara). the angle of the normal femur usually increases due to weight bearing (coax valga). in the patients that both tighs have been amputated the change...

OBJECTIVES We investigated the efficacy and safety of using balloon expandable drug-eluting stents (DES) to prevent amputations in patients with below-the-knee critical limb ischemia. BACKGROUND Critical limb ischemia patients have a 1-year amputation rate of 30% and a mortality rate of 25%. Most patients with critical limb ischemia have severe below-the-knee arterial disease that limits the ...

Analysis of upper-body accelerations is a promising and simple technique for quantitatively assessing some general features of gait such as stability, harmony, and symmetry. Despite the growing literature on elderly healthy populations and neurological patients, few studies have used accelerometry to investigate these features in subjects with lower-limb amputation. We enrolled four groups of s...

Background: Through knee amputation (TKA) may offer benefits over above (AKA) in patients unsuitable for below amputation. This retrospective analysis compared surgical and rehabilitation outcomes post TKA AKA. Methods: All AKA procedures recorded the Scottish Physiotherapy Amputee Research Group dataset from January 2007 to December 2017 were included analysis. aetiologies, re-amputations bila...

Since the time required for a person with an amputation to become familiarized with a prosthesis after a change of a component is not known, the gait of a single subject, a man with a through-knee amputation, was examined with two different knee mechanisms interchanged in the same prosthesis. Several parameters were analyzed to determine when the subject's gait had stabilized sufficiently to pe...

BACKGROUND Persons with unilateral, lower-extremity amputation sometimes develop osteoarthritis in the intact limb. The purpose of this study was to investigate gait mechanics and bone mineral density in unilateral, trans-tibial amputees to test the hypotheses that the intact limb knee and hip will have larger frontal plane net joint moments and bone mineral density than the prosthetic side and...

We report on a 79-year-old woman who underwent salvage of the knee and lower leg using a Whichita Fusion Nail for knee arthrodesis, combined with a medial gastrocnemius muscle flap for a 3% contact burn that resulted in loss of the extensor mechanism. This provided an alternative to above-knee amputation when extensor mechanism reconstruction was not feasible.

Traumatic dislocation of the hip or knee can occur after high-energy trauma and is often associated with concomitant injuries and secondary complications. Concomitant traumatic dislocation of both hip and knee is rare. We describe a case of combined ipsilateral posterior hip dislocation with a posterior acetabular fracture and a complete open knee dislocation with disruption of the popliteal ar...
