The b value deduced from the Gutenberg–Richter law is an important parameter for sequence and precursory analyses, both in laboratory acoustic emission tests seismology. As a statistical value, maximum likelihood estimation mostly used to estimate value. However, traditional singly truncated seismology only considers minimum magnitude, while acquisition device rock will set threshold of amplitu...
The idea that faults rupture in repeated, characteristic earthquakes is central to most probabilistic earthquake forecasts. The concept is elegant in its simplicity, and if the same event has repeated itself multiple times in the past, we might anticipate the next. In practice however, assembling a fault-segmented characteristic earthquake rupture model can grow into a complex task laden with u...
The distribution of seismic moment is of capital interest to evaluate earthquake hazard, in particular regarding the most extreme events. We make use of likelihood-ratio tests to compare the simple Gutenberg-Richter power-law (PL) distribution with two statistical models that incorporate an exponential tail, the so-called tapered Gutenberg-Richter (Tap) and the truncated gamma, when fitted to t...

In this expository paper we show how one can, in a uniform way, calculate the weight distributions of some well-known binary cyclic codes. The codes are related to certain families of curves, and the weight distributions are related to the distribution of the number of rational points on the curves.
Radio pulsar observations can be used to test aspects of general relativity from equivalence principle violations to binary orbital effects in the strong-field regime. This article summarizes the status of such tests at the start of the meeting, and describes two new tests made possible by recent observations of well-known binary pulsar systems.
