A conditional tetracycline-responsive transgenic mouse model with deregulated estrogen receptor a expression in mammary epithelial cells developed ductal hyperplasia (DH), lobular hyperplasia, and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) by 4 months of age. Higher proliferative rates were found in both normal and abnormal ductal and lobular structures. DH and DCIS but not normal ductal structures showed...

BACKGROUND Breast cancer is usually associated with metastases to lungs, bones and liver. Breast carcinoma metastasizing to the gallbladder is very rare. CASE PRESENTATION A 59-year-old woman presented with bilateral synchronous breast lesions. A palpable, retroareolar solid lesion of diameter equal to 5 cm was present in the right breast, and a newly developed, non-palpable lesion with micro...

Pleomorphic variant of lobular carcinoma is a recently described variant of invasive lobular carcinoma. It is reported to be positive for estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors and over express Her2/neu in most cases. We present here a case of invasive variant of pleomorphic lobular carcinoma with coexisting classic and pleomorphic variants of lobular carcinoma in situ along with focal d...

BACKGROUND Lobular carcinoma in accessory breast tissue is a rare occurrence. We present such a case in a 61-year-old woman. CASE PRESENTATION A skin nodule in the axillary skin on excision biopsy revealed invasive lobular carcinoma. CONCLUSIONS Carcinoma in accessory breast tissue is uncommon especially invasive lobular type. A high index of suspicion may avoid late diagnosis.

Gastrointestinal metastases from invasive lobular breast cancer are uncommon with the stomach and small intestines being the most common metastatic sites. Peritoneal and rectal metastases are very rare and only rarely occur as the first manifestation of disease. We herein report the case of a 47-year-old woman who presented with abdominal carcinomatosis as a first sign of invasive lobular breas...

Solitary metastasis from breast carcinoma to the gastrointestinal tract is an uncommon finding. We describe a female patient with a solitary jejunal metastasis from an undiagnosed breast cancer who presented to the emergency department with a bowel obstruction. Abdominal surgery was performed, revealing a jejunal stenosis from a metastatic lobular carcinoma. The primary tumor in the left breast...

Cytomorphologic patterns of breast carcinoma in effusion include three-dimensional groups of tightly packed clusters for invasive ductal type and single files with cytoplasmic signet ring-like cells for invasive lobular type. A mesothelial-like cell pattern has been described for metastatic lobular carcinoma in pleural fluid. We report a case of a patient with a remote history of lobular carcin...

BACKGROUND Alcohol consumption is a well-established risk factor for breast cancer. This association is thought to be largely hormonally driven, so alcohol use may be more strongly associated with hormonally sensitive breast cancers. Few studies have evaluated how alcohol-related risk varies by breast cancer subtype. METHODS We assessed the relationship between self-reported alcohol consumpti...

Histiocytoid breast carcinoma is an uncommon entity that is mostly regarded as a variant of lobular carcinoma. Its occurrence with apocrine lobular carcinoma in situ and consistent expression of gross cystic disease fluid protein 15 suggest apocrine differentiation. Its recognition is often challenging, particularly when histiocytoid tumour cells occur in a metastatic site before the primary di...
