The authors describe the myelographic and postmyelographic CT findings of an extradural mass with cord compression in an 82-year-old woman. Synovial cysts generally occur posterolaterally and are associated with degenerative facet joints; an unusual site together with facet joint disease should alert the observer to the possibility of a synovial cyst.

An MRI scan confirmed a synovial cyst originating from the left hip joint, lying adjacent to the femoral nerve. The cyst expanded on standing, causing a tran...

We report a case of lumbar facet joint synovial cyst at L5-S1 with clinically significant radicular pain diagnosed by means of MR imaging. This cyst spontaneously resolved, as determined on follow-up MR images obtained 18 months later. The patient's clinical symptoms substantially improved after conservative medical treatment.
