We examined the influence of incidental exposure to varied metrical patterns from different musical cultures on the perception of complex metrical structures from an unfamiliar musical culture. Adults who were familiar with Western music only (i.e., simple meters) and those who also had limited familiarity with non-Western music were tested on their perception of metrical organization in unfami...

We investigated whether metrical accentuation has obligatory effects on the kinematics of rhythmic finger tapping. Auditory rhythmic patterns were repeated cyclically, and participants first synchronized with each pattern and then reproduced it 10 times on a MIDI keyboard, which yielded measures of the timing and velocities of key depression and release. Experiment 1 used strongly and weakly me...

Implicit learning (IL) occurs unintentionally. IL of temporal patterns has received minimal attention, and results are mixed regarding whether IL of temporal patterns occurs in the absence of a concurrent ordinal pattern. Two experiments examined the IL of temporal patterns and the conditions under which IL is exhibited. Experiment 1 examined whether uncertainty of the upcoming stimulus identit...

This study explains the metrical hierarchical structure of music that deals with onsets of musical events and the distances between them. The metrical structure is essential for the temporal organization of notes and the perception of rhythm. The paper shows the suitability of inter onset interval histograms to cover major metrical characteristics such as dominant metrical levels, regularity an...

This paper presents a case study which describes, compares and contrasts the prosodic features of the intonation of two children diagnosed with HighFunctioning Autism (HFA) with two children without developmental disorders (WDD), matched for age, school grade and academic achievements. They were all male monolingual speakers of Modern Hebrew. Three prominent components of prosody (intonation un...

We study repeated zero-sum games against an adversary on a budget. Given that an adversary has some constraint on the sequence of actions that he plays, we consider what ought to be the player’s best mixed strategy with knowledge of this budget. We show that, for a general class of normal-form games, the minimax strategy is indeed efficiently computable and relies on a “random playout” techniqu...

We give a randomized algorithm (the ”Wedge Algorithm”) of competitiveness 3 2 Hk − 1 2k for any metrical task system on a uniform space of k points, for any k ≥ 2, where Hk = P k i=1 1 i , the k harmonic number. This algorithm has better competitiveness than the Irani-Seiden algorithm if k is smaller than 10. The algorithm is better by a factor of 2 if k < 47.

The LTB model is studied as the Caushy problem for the equations defined two metrical functions λ(μ, τ) and ω(μ, τ). The initial conditions throught metrical functions are presented. The rules of calculating three undetermined functions f(μ), F (μ) and F(μ) are obtained. The general expressions for the density and Habble function in the LTB model are written by the metrical functions. PACS numb...
