Computer simulation of general microwave nonlinear circuits excited by a large number of input tones is addressed. The algorithm, based on the spectral-balance method, uses novel index-vector and convolution-matrix generation techniques. That, in conjunction with a new nonlinear-device modeling approach (which directly takes into account the higher order derivatives of the I=V and Q=V character...
In this work, the neural performance data sheets of the transistor are employed to determine the feasible design target space in the optimization of a microwave amplifier. The basic amplifier with a single transistor between the input and output matching circuits (IMC and OMC) is also worked out. Very Fast Simulated Reannealing (VFSR) is utilized in the multi objective optimization process for ...
A dynamic bias technology is proposed to meet linearity standards at high-power levels and simultaneously reduce power consumption at low-power output levels for a mobile WiMAX terminal application. The dynamic bias circuit induces voltage via the current from the source port of the final active stage, and makes the bias operate the PA dynamically as the output power level is increased. The fab...
To obtain accurate measurements for brightness temperature from the IIP radiometer, it is necessary to know the temperature of the front-end components especially low noise amplifier (LNA) and microwave terminator during measurements. For this application, all of these components will be placed on a temperature-stabilized metal plate which can be achieved by using a thermoelectric cooler (TEC)....
We explore a possibility of measuring the magnitude and the Majorana nature of neutrino masses, by using a novel process of neutrino pair emission from excited atoms. Except lepton number non-conserving processes, the neutrino pair (ν ¯ ν) emission is the unique process to distinguish the Ma-jorana neutrino from the Dirac neutrino. The small energy difference between atomic levels makes it easi...
Quasi-optical power combining techniques have been developed to address fundamental limitations in solid-state devices and circuits. These techniques have been applied to oscillators, amplifiers, frequencyconversion components, and control circuits. This paper surveys progress in the development of quasi-optical array systems operating in the microwave and millimeterwave regime, focusing primar...
The advent of ultra-low noise microwave amplifiers revolutionized several research fields demanding quantum-limited technologies. Exploiting a theoretical bimodal description linear phase-preserving amplifier, in this contribution we analyze some the intrinsic properties model architecture (i.e., an rf-SQUID based Josephson Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifier) terms amplification and generation...
Dispersive readouts for superconducting qubits have the advantage of speed and minimal invasiveness. We have developed such an amplifier, the cavity bifurcation amplifier CBA , and applied it to the readout of the quantronium qubit. It consists of a Josephson junction embedded in a microwave on-chip resonator. In contrast with the Josephson bifurcation amplifier, which has an on-chip capacitor ...
An improved power re-use technique is introduced for application to outphased microwave power amplifiers. The technique allows a significant portion of the wasted out-of-phase components of the signal to be returned to the power supply, resulting in substantial improvements in overall power-amplifier efficiency. A peak re-use RF-to-DC efficiency of 63% was obtained at 1.96 GHz.
We have investigated the possibility of building a singleband Dicke radiometer that is inexpensive, small-sized, stable, highly sensitive, and which consists of readily available microwave components. The selected frequency band is at 3.25-3.75 GHz which provides a reasonable compromise between spatial resolution (antenna size) and sensing depth for radiometry applications in lossy tissue. Fore...
