Viscosity and density are two important physical parameters of liquid. Such parameters are widely used for label-free chemical detection. Conventional technologies employ acoustic wave sensors to detect viscosity and density. In these sensors, the liquid under test directly contacts with the surface of the sensor. The produced acoustic wave in the sensor leaks to the adjacent liquid layer, caus...

We propose a Monte Carlo simulation method for the evaluation of free energies in crystalline systems. In principle, the method involves evaluating the free-energy difference between systems of N molecules and 2N molecules. This difference, coupled with the assumption that the free energy is extensive and thus proportional to N, provides sufficient information to obtain the absolute free energy...

For a large Adaptive Optics (AO) system such as a large Segmented Mirror Telescope (SMT), it is often difficult, although not impossible, to directly apply common Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) controller design methods due to the computational burden imposed by the large dimension of the system model. In this paper, a practical controller design method is proposed which significantly reduces ...

This paper deals with control of (max,+)-linear systems when a disturbance acts on system state. In a first part we synthesize the greatest control which allows to match the disturbance action. Then, we look for an output feedback which makes the disturbance matching. Formally, this problem is very close to the disturbance decoupling problem for continuous linear systems.

We present a novel analysis technique to understand the dynamics of a recently described locomotion mode called legless locomotion. Legless locomotion is a locomotion mode available to a legged robot when it becomes high-centered, that is, when its legs do not touch the ground. Under these conditions, the robot may still locomote in the plane by swinging its legs in the air, rocking on its body...

An alternative method for port decoupling and matching of arrays with small inter-element spacing is proposed. The approach is based on the inherent decoupling effect obtained by feeding the eigenmodes of the array. For this purpose, a modal feed network is introduced. The decoupled external ports of the feed network may individually be matched using conventional matching circuits. Such a syste...

The paper studies the unmeasurable disturbance decoupling problem via the dynamic output feedback for discrete-time nonlinear control systems. To address the problem the novel algebraic approach, called the algebra of functions, is applied. The advantage of the latter over the differential geometric methods is that the system description may depend on non-differentiable functions.
