Aminoglycoside antibiotics target an internal RNA loop within the bacterial ribosomal decoding site. Here, we describe the synthesis and SAR of novel 3,5-diamino-piperidine derivatives as aminoglycoside mimetics, and show they act as inhibitors of bacterial translation and growth.
Antimicrobial susceptibility was determined in 15 epidemiologically unrelated clinical isolates of Acinetobacter genospecies 3. Moreover, the mechanisms of resistance to some beta-lactam antibiotics may be associated with the presence of a chromosomal cephalosporinase, AmpC, and the resistance to quinolones related to mutations in the gyrA and parC genes.
The solution- and solid-phase synthesis to obtain several natural-product-like, tetrahydroquinoline-based, polycyclic derivatives were developed. In one approach, two derivatives (38 and 41) having an eight-membered unsaturated lactam were successfully obtained both in solution and on solid support.
A new member of the monobactam family of beta-lactam antibiotics, designated MM 42842, has been detected in a culture of Pseudomonas cocovenenans. The production, isolation and some properties of the antibiotic are described. Structural studies show MM 42842 to be closely related to the previously described antibiotic sulfazecin.
Sodium 7beta-[(R)-2-(N(b)()-o-nitrobenzyloxycarbonyl)hydrazino-3-pheny lpropa namido]cephalosporanate (1) is described as a new type of beta-lactam antibiotic, which undergoes light-induced destruction of its beta-lactam moiety and hence becomes biologically inactive. This type of antibiotic holds the promise of self-destruction over a number of hours of exposure to light, so that it would not ...
A quick, efficient, one-pot method for the synthesis of substituted N-aryl lactams through the reaction of various kinds of corresponding substituted arenes with a variety of ω-azido alkanoic acid chlorides using a Lewis acid (i.e. EtAlCl(2)) at room temperature, through the in situ involvement of a Friedel-Crafts reaction followed by intramolecular Schimdt rearrangement was developed, and affo...
Introduction. Acinetobacter baumannii is a pathogen and major cause of nosocomial infections in the current healthcare system worldwide due to its high resistance antibiotics, including those considered as last resort, thus posing threat severe clinical forms, well exhibiting significant economic impact.
Material methods. A descriptive longitudinal cross-sectional epidemiological study wa...
Minimal inhibitory concentration determinations and disk diffusion and Autobac 1 susceptibility tests were performed on 22 strains of Aeromonas hydrophila. Eleven of the strains had discrepancies between Autobac and disk diffusion or minimal inhibitory concentration results. These discrepancies occurred with the beta-lactam antibiotics, primarily carbenicillin and cephalothin. It is recommended...
