In automation flexible manufacturing systems, tool wear detection during the cutting process is one of the most important considerations. This study presents an intelligent system for online tool condition monitoring in drilling process .In this paper, analytical and empirical models have been used to predict the thrust and cutting forces on the lip and chisel edges of a new drill. Also an empi...

This article presents a system-level, model-based framework for machinery diagnosis that combines the signal processing and domain knowledge. Based on causal network diagnosis, this framework provides an integrated, condition-based monitoring system with full machinery prediction capabilities. We describe in detail a preliminary diagnostic model of a motor-pump system in this framework.

An “ideal” upper limb prosthesis should be perceived as part of the natural body by the amputee and should replicate sensory-motor capabilities of the amputated limb. However, such an ideal “cybernetic” prosthesis is still far from reality: current prosthetic hands are simple grippers with one or two degrees of freedom, which barely restore the capability of the thumb-index pinch. This paper de...

Induction motors are mainly used for variable load applications and it is vital to have a condition monitoring system with capabilities to diagnose motor faults in variable load conditions. The environment noise varies has non-linear relation with motor load and it challenges the decision making capability of the condition monitoring system. This paper addresses the issue of reliable decision m...

Older adults who undertake resistance training are typically seeking to maintain or increase their muscular strength with the goal of preserving or improving their functional capabilities. The extent to which resistance training adaptations lead to improved performance on tasks of everyday living is not particularly well understood. Indeed, studies examining changes in functional task performan...

This paper deals with the design and optimization of a 2.1 MW rim-driven electric thruster for ship propulsion. For this purpose, double stator ironless rotor axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) motor is considered as propulsion motor. The analytical model selected AFPM presented. magnetic field in machine calculated using 3D charge concept combination image theory permeance functions to take in...

Sound localization has been widely studied with the aim of building artificial systems as well as understanding the mechanism underlying the same process in the biological systems. Nevertheless, in robotics the use of auditory cues has been rather limited. We present an artificial sound localization system and its implementation in an embodied, self-developing agent, capable of acquiring and en...

A new 2-D planar motion system for precision machining operations is investigated. Characteristics of the 2-D planar motor system are studied to gain better understanding of its capabilities, limitations and interactions with machining processes. The planar motor system is applied to an end milling process, where experimental data on cutting force and surface finish are in agreement with simula...
