Structure-preserving generic low-rank perturbations are studied for classes of structured matrix pencils, including real symmetric, complex symmetric, and complex Hermitian pencils. For singular pencils it is analyzed which characteristic quantities stay invariant in the perturbed canonical form, and it is shown that the regular part of a structured matrix pencil is not affected by generic pert...
This study investigates how listeners judge the similarity of voice converted voices using a talker discrimination task. The data used is from the Voice Conversion Challenge 2016. 17 participants from around the world took part in building voice converted voices from a shared data set of source and target speakers. This paper describes the evaluation of similarity for four of the source-target ...
We investigate the connection between two classical models for the study of phase transition phenomena, the Becker–Döring equations, and the Lifshitz–Slyozov system. More precisely, we introduce a scaling parameter and show that the solution to the Becker–Döring equations converges to that of the Lifshitz–Slyozov system as the scaling parameter goes to 0.
The spatio-temporal scaling relationship for individual channels in braided streams is shown to be identical to the spatiotemporal scaling associated with constant Froude number, e.g. FrZ1. A means to derive this relationship is developed from a new theory of sediment transport. The mechanism by which the FrZ1 condition apparently governs the scaling seems to derive from the sensitivity of sedi...
We compare results on diffractive W-boson production at the Tevatron with predictions based on the diffractive structure function measured in deep inelastic scattering at HERA assuming (a) conventional factorization or (b) hard factorization combined with a rapidity gap distribution scaled to the total gap probability. We find that conventional factorization fails, while the scaling prediction ...
The existing data for hadron structure functions, F 2 (x, Q 2), show considerable Q 2-dependence, which is mainly attributed to the QCD logarithmic corrections to Bjorken scaling. However, at x → 1 the scaling violations are dominated by power corrections ∝ 1/Q 2 (higher twist and target mass effects):
In this paper we present TopFish, a multilevel computational method that integrates topic detection and political scaling and shows its applicability for a temporal aspect analysis of political campaigns (preprimary elections, primary elections, and general elections). It enables researchers to perform a range of multidimensional empirical analyses, ultimately allowing them to better understand...
The aim of this paper is to extend our knowledge about the power-law relationship between citationbased performance and collaboration patterns for papers in the natural sciences. We analyzed 829,924 articles that received 16,490,346 citations. The number of articles published through collaboration account for 89%. The citation-based performance and collaboration patterns exhibit a power-law cor...
In the recent paper (Li and Zhang, 2012) a mapping model of weak affine transform (WAT) was proposed for registering images of flat scenes. We show that such a model may cause inaccuracies when registering images with non-uniform scaling differences, even if they seemingly behave according to this model. Mathematical reason of this is that WAT is neither invertible nor closed. We explain why ma...
