This paper demonstrates the superiority of energy-based features derived from the knowledge of predominant-pitch, for singing voice detection in polyphonic music over commonly used spectral features. However, such energy-based features tend to misclassify loud, pitched instruments. To provide robustness to such accompaniment we exploit the relative instability of the pitch contour of the singin...

Car applications demand more and more the use of speech technologies. Drivers must concentrate on controlling the car and the non-use of hands makes the voice a valuable tool. Here we analyze the possibility of identifying the user of a car through her/his voice in order to develop some useful applications, and establish preferences, some of them related to music. The identification will be don...

Are the neural systems involved in recognizing affective prosody in language also used for emotion recognition in instrumental music? One way to test this idea is to study musical affect perception in patients with receptive affective aprosodia (RAA). Music perception in RAA is totally unexplored and could provide a powerful way to test the idea that we perceive music as a kind of emotional voice.
