Cytogenetic study of short-term cultures from 10 adipose tissue tumors (eight lipomas, one myxoid liposarcoma, and one mixed liposarcoma) have revealed clonal chromosome abnormalities in seven cases. In both malignant tumors, translocation (12;16) was the sole aberration, and in the mixed liposarcoma, the breakpoints could be sublocalized to bands 12q13.3 and 16p11.2, thus confirming findings o...

Cutaneous neurofibromas are benign dermal tumors composed of spindle cells in a myxoid stroma containing numerous blood vessels. Here we describe 6 cases of solitary cutaneous neurofibroma showing unusually higher density of blood vessels in the stroma when compared to that of classical neurofibromas. We propose this lesion to be a new histopathological variant of neurofibroma and name it angio...

Cranial malignant fibrous histiocytomas are rare tumors. Most are hypervascular, destructive masses that are similar to other malignant lesions and to malignant fibrous histiocytomas found elsewhere in the body. We describe a myxoid malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the temporal bone, possibly of dural origin, with features that more closely resembled a meningioma at CT, MR imaging, and angiogr...

Breast metastasis arising from non mammary malignancy is very rare and occurs in malignant melanomas, sarcomas, lung cancers, ovarian tumors, renal and thyroid carcinomas. Few cases of breast metastasis from myxoid liposarcoma have been reported in the worldwide literature. We report herein a case of a 51-year-old woman with 2-year history of a slowly growing, painless mass of the right proxima...

BACKGROUND Lipoma is by far the most common of all benign soft-tissue tumors which far outnumber malignant tumors. Soft-tissue sarcomas are malignant tumors and are usually named for the type of tissue in which they begin. Liposarcoma (LPS), which arises in the fatty tissue, is rather an uncommon soft-tissue tumor. Multiple histologic subtypes of liposarcoma are recognized, including myxoid lip...

Distant metastases of the parotid gland are uncommon. They arise from primary tumors located in the head and neck, mainly melanoma and epidermoid carcinoma. Other histological types of metastasis are very rare. We report an exceptional case of parotid metastasis of myxoid liposarcoma in a 42-year-old man and insist on the worse prognosis of this entity.

Multifocal presentation, defined as the presence of tumor at two or more anatomically separate sites, before the manifestation of disease in sites where sarcomas usually metastasize (e.g., lungs) occurs in about 1% of extremity soft tissue sarcomas (STSs). Debate still persists whether multifocal STSs represent an unusual pattern of metastasis or multiple separate primary tumors. Among STSs wit...

Differentiation is a complex set of events that can be blocked by rearrangements of regulatory genes producing fusion proteins with altered properties. In the case of myxoid liposarcoma (MLS) tumors, the causative abnormality is a fusion between the CHOP transcription factor and the FUS or EWS genes. CHOP belongs to and is a negative regulator of the large CAAT/enhancer binding protein family w...

Paratesticular liposarcomas are rare tumors and are usually seen in patients in middle age or older. Optimal treatment is radical orchidectomy. Radiotherapy or chemotherapy is added for advanced disease or recurrences. These practice guidelines often vary from the experience in developing countries. We present a 23-year old man who presented with paratesticular myxoid liposarcoma, after transscr...
