In this paper, we investigate the long-term behavior for an invariant plane curve flow, whose evolution process can be expressed as a second-order nonlinear parabolic equation with respect to centro-affine curvature. The forward and backward limits in time are discussed, which shows that closed convex embedded may converge ellipse when evolving according flow. addition, obtain isoperimetric ine...

We consider a controlled state equation of parabolic type on the halfline (0,+∞) with boundary conditions of Dirichlet type in which the unknown is equal to the sum of the control and of a white noise in time. We study finite horizon and infinite horizon optimal control problem related by menas of backward stochastic differential equations.

The initial-boundary value problem for a linear parabolic equation with the Dirichlet boundary condition is solved approximately by applying the finite element discretization in the space dimension and three types of finite-difference discretizations in time: the backward, the Crank-Nicolson and the Calahan discretization. New error bounds are derived.

Abstract: This paper is devoted to studying the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions for an initial boundary problem of a nonlinear fourth-order parabolic equation with variable exponent vt + div(|∇4v|p(x)−2∇4v) − |4v|q(x)−24v = g(x, v). By applying Leray-Schauder’s fixed point theorem, the existence of weak solutions of the elliptic problem is given. Furthermore, the semi-discrete method...

For the solution of optimal control problems governed by nonlinear parabolic PDEs, methods working on the reduced objective functional are often employed to avoid a full spatio-temporal discretization of the problem. The evaluation of the reduced gradient requires one solve of the state equation forward in time, and one backward solve of the adjoint equation. The state enters into the adjoint e...

In this article, we study a free boundary problem modeling the growth of tumors with drug application. The model consists of two nonlinear second-order parabolic equations describing the diffusion of nutrient and drug concentration, and three nonlinear first-order hyperbolic equations describing the evolution of proliferative cells, quiescent cells and dead cells. We deal with the radially symm...

The main objective of this paper and the accompanying one [Viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear parabolic path dependent PDEs: Part II (2012) Preprint] is to provide a notion of viscosity solutions for fully nonlinear parabolic path-dependent PDEs. Our definition extends our previous work [Ann. Probab. (2014) 42 204–236], focused on the semilinear case, and is crucially based on the nonlinear...

In this paper, a variational iteration method (VIM), which is a well-known method for solving nonlinear equations, has been employed to solve an inverse parabolic partial differential equation. Inverse problems in partial differential equations can be used to model many real problems in engineering and other physical sciences. The VIM is to construct correction functional using general Lagr...

abstract: in this thesis, we focus to class of convex optimization problem whose objective function is given as a linear function and a convex function of a linear transformation of the decision variables and whose feasible region is a polytope. we show that there exists an optimal solution to this class of problems on a face of the constraint polytope of feasible region. based on this, we dev...
