Understanding the phenomenon of rogue wave formation, often called extreme waves, in diverse branches nonlinear science has become one most attractive domains. Given great richness new results and increasing number disciplines involved, we are focusing here on two pioneering fields: hydrodynamics optics. This tutorial aims to provide basic background recent developments formation waves various ...

The field of nonlinear optics has developed rapidly since its beginning in 1961. This development is in both the theory of nonlinear effects and the theory of nonlinear interactions in solids, and in the applications of nonlinear devices. This review discusses nonlinear interactions in solids and the resultant nonlinear coupling of electromagnetic waves that leads to second harmonic generation,...

Nonlinear metasurfaces constitute a key asset in meta-optics, given their ability to scale down nonlinear optics sub-micrometer thicknesses. To date, have been mainly real...

Nonlinear optics is a broad field of research and technology that encompasses subject matter in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering. The diversity of nonlinear optics stems, in part, from the need for all-optical and electrooptical devices for applications in telecommunications, optical storage, and all-optical computing. In addition, many nonlinear optical effects have p...

Unprecedented material compatibility and ease of integration, in addition to the unique and diverse optoelectronic properties of layered materials, have generated significant interest in their utilization in nanophotonic devices. While initial nanophotonic experiments with layered materials primarily focused on light sources, modulators, and detectors, recent efforts have included nonlinear opt...

This paper is devoted to the study of nonlinear geometric optics in Colombeau algebras of generalized functions in the case of Cauchy problems for semilinear hyperbolic systems in one space variable. Extending classical results, we establish a generalized variant of nonlinear geometric optics. As an application, a nonlinear superposition principle is obtained when distributional initial data ar...

We describe a principle that can be used to generate self-similarity and fractals in almost any nonlinear system in nature that supports solitons, given that some proper nonadiabatic conditions are met. We illustrate our idea on a particular optics example that also theoretically demonstrates fractals in nonlinear optics.

New families of exact analytical Helmholtz solitons are presented for various material nonlinearities, and simulations confirm their stability. A novel generalization of Snell’s Law for Kerr solitons is also reported. Helmholtz angular corrections to paraxial theory, exceeding 100%, are uncovered. © 2007 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (190.4400) Nonlinear Optics, Materials; (190.9540) N...

A generic criterion for the generation of spontaneous fractal patterns is proposed, which has independence with respect to system nonlinearity. We also report the first transverse spatial optical fractals found in dispersive and absorptive ring cavities, and our analysis is fully confirmed by numerical simulations. © 2007 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (190.4400) Nonlinear Optics, Mater...
