Hydrolyzable tannins were found to be the active cytotoxic constituents of three Greek Cytinus taxa: Cytinus ruber, Cytinus hypocistis subsp. hypocistis and Cytinus hypocistis subsp. orientalis. The cytotoxic activity was evaluated against a broad spectrum of cancer cell lines. The structure of the active compounds was investigated with NMR and electrospray-MS/MS techniques.
The whole-genome shotgun sequence of Rhodococcus ruber strain Chol-4 is presented here. This organism was shown to be able to grow using many steroids as the sole carbon and energy sources. These sequence data will help us to further explore the metabolic abilities of this versatile degrader.
BACKGROUND Monascus pigments are widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries due to their safety to human health. Our previous study found that glucose concentration induced extracellular oxidoreduction potential (ORP) changes could influence extracellular water-soluble yellow pigment production by Monascus ruber CGMCC 10910 in submerged fermentation. In this study, H2O2 and dithiothr...
Few studies to date have examined genetic variability of widespread tropical amphibian species over their distributional range using different kinds of molecular markers. Here, we use genetic data in an attempt to delimit evolutionary entities within two groups of Neotropical frogs, the Scinax ruber species group and the Rhinella margaritifera species group. We combined mitochondrial and nuclea...

The study included a comparability of the chemical composition and nutritional value four economical fishes species from Iraqi coastal waters in northwestern Arabian gulf: including Tenualosa ilisha, Acanthobagrus arabicus, Otoliths ruber, Planiliza subviridis. Samples were brought local markets Basra governance-southern Iraq. Results show that moisture fish`s muscles was recorded 69.15 ...
BACKGROUND AND AIMS One of the most extreme manifestations of parasitism is found in the genus Cytinus, a holoparasite whose vegetative body is reduced to an endophytic system living within its host root. There are two species of Cytinus in the Mediterranean, C. hypocistis and C. ruber, which parasitize various genera of Cistaceae, one of the most characteristic families of the Mediterranean sc...
Salinibacter ruber is an extremely halophilic member of the Bacteroidetes that thrives in crystallizer ponds worldwide. Here, we have analyzed two sets of 22 and 35 co-occurring S. ruber strains, newly isolated respectively, from 100 microliters water samples from crystalizer ponds in Santa Pola and Mallorca, located in coastal and inland Mediterranean Spain and 350 km apart from each other. A ...
