The dissociation of gramicidin A (gA) channels into monomers is the simplest example of a channel gating process. The initial steps in this process are studied via a computational model that simulates the reaction coordinate for dimer-monomer dissociation. The nonbonded interaction energy between the monomers is determined, allowing for their free relative translational and rotational motion. L...

In this paper, thermal mixing characteristics of two miscible fluids in a T-shaped microchannel are investigated theoretically, experimentally, and numerically. Thermal mixing processes in a T-shaped microchannel are divided into two zones, consisting of a T-junction and a mixing channel. An analytical two-dimensional model was first built to describe the heat transfer processes in the mixing c...

Abstract Covariant quantization of a multi-pronged open bosonic string junction is studied beyond static analysis. Its excited states are described by set ordinary bosons as well some sets twisted on the worldsheet. The system characterized certain large algebra type that includes single Virasoro subalgebra. By properly defining physical states, one can show there no ghosts in Hilbert space.

Nanomultiple CaFe2O4/ZnFe2O4pn junctions are prepared by a pulsed laser deposition method to explore their photoelectrochemical properties as the photoelectrodes. It is demonstrated that the multiple-pn-junction structure is favorable to enhancing the photocurrent density and the onset potential of the photoelectrode. Furthermore, the 20-junction photoelectrode-based PEC cell yields a high open...

It was thought previously that cardiac muscle gap junctions provide low-resistance connections between cells and permit the local-circuit current to flow. Some evidences show that myocardial cells may not require low-resistance connections for successful propagation of the action potential (AP). It seems that some other types of mechanisms must be involved in AP propagation. In this article, we...

this paper presents the results of a numerical study on the heat transfer performance and the removal process of fluid particles under the influence of magnetohydrodynamic mixed convection in a horizontal channel with an open cavity. the bottom wall of the cavity is heated at a constant temperature (th) while the top wall of the channel is maintained at a relatively low temperature (tc). air wi...

An optimal flow control methodology based on adjoint sensitivity analysis for controlling nonlinear open channel flows with complex geometries is presented. The adjoint equations, derived from the nonlinear Saint-Venant equations, are generally capable of evaluating the time-dependent sensitivities with respect to a variety of control variables under complex flow conditions and cross-section sh...

Recent international reports have suggested that an abnormal pancreatic and bile duct junction can influence the degree of pancreatic fluid regurgitation, resulting in an increased incidence of biliary tract malignancy. To confirm these reports, we retrospectively examined the anatomic relation at the pancreaticobiliary junction in all patients diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma or gallbladder c...
