In this work, we study the blocking performance of the individual node: optical cross connects (OXC) with (full or limited) wavelength conversion in wavelength routed networks (WRON) based on the theory of probability. And a blocking probability model is proposed. Particularly, we pay more attention to investigate OXC's performance improvement by using more feasible limited wavelength conversio...

The p-cycles can be described as preconfigured closed protection paths in a mesh network. Like rings, the protection path is preconnected in advance of any failure and protection capacity is very fast and simple. And like mesh p-cycle offers the high capacity efficiency. The use of wavelength converter in p-cycle enhances the capacity and rapid protection mechanism for mesh-restorable networks....

We proposed and experimentally demonstrated that wideband tunable wavelength conversion can be performed by using only 1.9 meter of bismuth-based highly-nonlinear fiber in optical loop mirror configuration (Bi-NOLM). Both inverted and non-inverted wavelength conversion of NRZ-formatted signal at 10 Gb/s were carried out. The range of wavelength conversion is 56 nm. No stimulated Brillouin scatt...

We demonstrate error-free wavelength conversion of 28 GBaud 16-QAM single polarization (112 Gb/s) signals based on four-wave mixing in a dispersion engineered silicon nanowire (SNW). Wavelength conversion covering the entire C-band is achieved using a single pump. We characterize the performance of the wavelength converter subsystem through the electrical signal to noise ratio penalty as well a...

Simulations of ultra-long (10 mm) semiconductor optical amplifier’s induced optical chirp (cross-phase modulation), with posterior conversion to amplitude modulation by proper filtering, show promising results for wavelength conversion with pulse re-amplifying and re-shaping in 10 Gbps and 20 Gbps. The dependences on filter bandwidth and optical input power (high, medium and low levels) are ana...

We report an efficient wavelength conversion via four-wave-mixing in reverse biased silicon-on-isolator p-i-n rib waveguides and demonstrate, for the first time, the conversion of a high-speed optical pseudo-random bit sequence data at 40 Gb/s. Results give a wavelength conversion efficiency of -8.6dB using a 8cm long waveguide with clear open eye on the wavelength converted signal . Conversion...

Four-wave mixing (FWM) in semiconductor optical amplifiers is an attractive mechanism for wavelength conversion in wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) systems since it provides modulation format and bit rate transparency over wide tuning ranges. A series of systems experiments evaluating several aspects of the performance of these devices at bit rates of 2.5 and 10 Gb/s are presented. Include...

In sparse wavelength conversion networks only a few nodes support wavelength conversion. The optical paths in the network consist of a group of segments where each segment independently must meet the wavelength continuity constraint when setting up lightpaths across them. In this paper, we propose a distributed control algorithm called First-Available that can efficiently be used to assign wave...

We present the first system penalty measurements for all-optical wavelength conversion in an integrated ring resonator. We achieve wavelength conversion over a range of 27.7nm in the C-band at 2.5 Gb/s by exploiting four wave mixing in a CMOS compatible, high index glass ring resonator at ~22 dBm average pump power, obtaining < 0.3 dB system penalty.

o accommodate the exponential growth of the Internet, transport networks based on wavelength-division multi-plexing (WDM) technology [1] are increasingly being deployed in carrier networks. WDM technology harnesses the enormous bandwidth of the fiber (potentially tens of terabits per second) by multiplexing hundreds of optical channels, each of which operates at speeds of several gigabits per s...
