The genus Phlaeopterus Motschulsky, 1853, which was previously known only from North America, is recorded for the Palaearctic fauna for the first time: P. czerskyi (Shavrin, 2001) comb. nov. (East Siberia: Khamar-Daban Mts.) is transferred from the genus Lesteva Latreille, 1797, redescribed, and illustrated.
The genus Chionea Dalman, 1816 is recorded from China for the first time with the following four species belonging to the subgenus Chionea s. str.: Chionea (Chionea) crassipes gracilistyla Alexander, 1936, C. (C.) pusilla Savchenko, 1983, C. (C.) sphaerae sp. nov. and C. (C.) tianhuashana sp. nov.. A key to the known species of Chionea from Eastern Palaearctic is presented.
The East Palaearctic seed beetle Bruchidius terrenus (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Bruchinae) is recorded for the first time to the Bulgarian fauna. Larvae of the bruchid infest mature seeds of introduced mimosa Albizia julibrissin (Fabacea), an ornamental tree in many countries. The level of damage on seeds caused by bruchid larvae was examined.
Aim Climatic changes have strongly reshaped the Western Palaearctic biota throughout the Late Pleistocene. For animals, most studies so far have focused on species having low to moderate dispersal abilities, while strong dispersers have remained understudied, despite their abundance. With the aim of contributing to filling this gap, we here investigate the Late Pleistocene evolutionary history ...
A new species of osmylid (Heterosmylus processussp. n.) is described and the other species in the genus from mainland China are redescribed. Heterosmylus zhamanus Yang, 1987, syn. n. is identified as a junior synonym of Heterosmylus yunnanus Yang, 1986. A key is provided to differentiate Palaearctic and Oriental species of Heterosmylus.
Hyponephele Muschamp, 1915 is a Palaearctic genus comprising 39 species (Eckweiler, Bozano, 2011), with most distributed in the Central Asiatic region. During the course of faunistic studies on the butterflies of Tajikistan, a new member of this genus was found; it is described herein as new. It is closely related and sympatric to H. hilaris (Staudinger, 1886) so compared to this one.
A new species, recently misinterpreted as Callophrys mystaphia Miller, 1913, Callophrys mystaphioides Krupitsky & Kolesnichenko sp. n., is described from Central Iran (Esfahan Province). The new species differs from C. mystaphia in the combination of external characters and morphology of genitalia. Possible relations of C. mystaphia--species group with other Palaearctic Callophrys are discussed.
Yelicones samaesanensis Butcher, new species, is described and illustrated based on a female and male specimens collected at light trap in Chonburi province, Thailand. This wasp is the tenth species of Yelicones described from the East Palaearctic and Oriental regions. Y. samaesanensis appears closest to Y. contractus Papp from Vietnam and India. A key is included to differentiate Y. samaesanen...
