This paper evaluates the hypothesis that during the 2008-2009 collapse in international trade, imports of higher quality goods experienced larger reductions compared to low-quality imports, using data on U.S. imports disaggregated by HS-10 product category and source country. We find little, if any, robust econometric evidence in support of this hypothesis. JEL Classifications: F41, F42

The number of students exceeds the available jobs by far. A potential explanation for this puzzle is that artistic work might result in exceptionally high job satisfaction, a conjecture that has been mentioned at...

This paper begins by confirming those findings in an analysis involving more countries over more time with additional controls. Forecasting with Spatial Panel Data This paper compares various forecasts using panel data with spatial error correlation. This paper considers the problem of how to construct price indexes on a panel data set. First a suitable panel data set is constructed by merging Eurostat’s Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) with a cross-section of OECD data. Second, seven different methods for constructing price indexes on a panel are proposed. These are then applied to the merged HICP/OECD data set. Temporal and spat...

According to the pollution haven effect (PHE) mobile capital responds to environmental regulation by moving from countries with high regulation to those with low regulation.
