AIMS (i) To determine which aspects of living with a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line cause Modified de Gramont (MdG) patients most difficulty. (ii) To explore MdG patients' views of the PICC-line experience. (iii) To determine if patients view PICC-lines as a benefit or a burden when receiving ambulatory MdG chemotherapy. BACKGROUND Ultrasound-guided cannulation of deep mid-arm veins by a modified Seldinger (US-Seldinger) technique has been demonstrated to yield better puncture success rates and lower postoperative complication rates than direct cannulation of superficial veins near the elbow with a short peripheral cannula and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) insertion through the cannula (non-US c...
OBJECTIVE We describe a case series constituting the first clinical trial by intravenous (IV) team nurses using the sonic flashlight (SF) for ultrasound guidance of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placement. METHODS Two IV team nurses with more than 10 years of experience with placing PICCs and 3 to 6 years of experience with ultrasound attempted to place PICCs under ultrasound ...
OBJECTIVE To observe and analyze the application effect of ultrasound-guided modified Seldinger technique (MST) in Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) catheterization. METHODS Two hundred patients treated with PICC catheterization from January 2013 to December 2015 were selected and randomly divided into two groups, namely, observation group and control group. The observation group ...
OBJECTIVE To explore the clinical application of the intracavitary electrocardiogram (IC-ECG) guided Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) tip placement among neonates. BACKGROUND the ECGs of neonates are difficult to perform and their wave shapes are of doubtful accuracy due to various interfering factors. METHOD 115 neonates were admitted to perform PICC guided by IC-ECG. Logistic...
Background An active intravenous substance use disorder is often the primary cause of infectious diseases in this population of users and creates a barrier to successful parenteral antimicrobial management. The dilemma is compounded by dramatically limited resources in small US towns. Methods This retrospective review from January 2014 through July 2016 aimed to develop a risk stratification a...
OBJECTIVES To report procedural characteristics and outcomes from a central venous catheter placement service operated by advanced practice nurses. DESIGN Single-center observational study. SETTING A tertiary care university hospital in Sydney, Australia. PATIENTS Adult patients from the general wards and from critical care areas receiving a central venous catheter, peripherally inserted ...
A 2-year-old boy with acute lymphoblastic leukemia was presented with peripherally inserted central catheter dysfunction. Radiological examinations revealed a catheter remnant in the right atrium extending into pulmonary vein. The catheter remnant was successfully removed from the right atrium by percutaneous endovascular intervention without any complications.
