The fundamental factors in the diagnosis in the orthodontic treatment are the spacing condition, tooth size, arch form and its dimensions. Plaster model analysis is a time-consuming procedure. Dividers, calipers, and Boley gauges have provided the standart of measurement against which newer methods have been evaluated [1]. Various scanning techniques, including laser scans, structured light, de...

PURPOSE To compare two different impression techniques for implants in totally edentulous patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 38 patients had impressions taken both using plaster and splinted vinyl polysiloxane (splinted-VPS). Two casts per patient were generated and allocated as test (plaster) and control (splinted-VPS) cast groups according to a randomised cross-over design. One of t...

BACKGROUND Corns are a common foot problem and surveys have indicated that between 14-48% of people suffer from them. Many of these will seek podiatry treatment, however there is little evidence to indicate which current treatments provide long term resolution. This study compared 'usual' treatment (enucleation with a scalpel) with the application of 40% salicylic acid plasters to corns to inve...

INTRODUCTION Plaster of Paris (PoP) impregnated bandages have been used to maintain the position of bones and joints for over a century. Classically, wool dressing is applied to the limb before the PoP, which can then be moulded to the desired shape. A modification of this practice is to wrap the PoP bandages circumferentially in cotton before wetting and applying to the patient in an attempt t...

BACKGROUND Burns and pressure sores are common injuries during cast application. Various factors such as water temperature, padding, and cast material layers may play a role in these injuries; however, the effect of cast molding on temperatures and pressures has not been investigated. This raises the following questions, does the application of molding during cast application: (1) alter skin le...

BACKGROUND Distal radius fractures are among the most prevalent fractures predictive of probable occurrence of other osteoporotic fractures. They are treated via a variety of methods, but the best treatment has not been defined yet. OBJECTIVES This study was performed to compare the results of open reduction and internal fixation with locking plates versus the pin and plaster method. MATERI...

The efficacy and tolerance of a capsicum plaster in non-specific low back pain was investigated in a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled multicentre parallel group study. A total of 320 patients were randomly assigned to two groups of n=160 subjects treated by the active or the placebo plaster. The main outcome measures used were a compound pain subscore of the Arhus low back rating sc...

This paper provides an overview of propagation studies beyond 100 GHz in the Terahertz Communications Lab in Braunschweig and the results achieved so far. In particular, rough surface reflections are investigated. The example is concrete plaster. Also the effect of multiple reflections in layered media is studied. The investigated material is wall paint on plaster. Index Terms — THz communicati...

A novel supramolecular plaster, (AEDPH(3))·(BtaH) (1), is synthesised and characterized. The supramolecular plaster is easy to synthesise and process, and displays good mechanical properties. It can adsorb and eliminate formaldehyde (HCHO) with high efficiency and exhibits very interesting HCHO/ultraviolet ray-induced luminescence switching.
