A case of salivary gland type pleomorphic adenoma of the trachea in a 48-year-old woman is presented. Pleomorphic adenoma is extremely rare in the trachea. The behavior of this tumor in the trachea appears to be similar to its counterpart in other sites and distinctly different from the more frequently encountered epithelial tumors.
OBJECTIVE Our study aimed to characterize alteration in the immunohistochemical expression of p21 in normal tissue of the salivary gland surrounding pleomorphic adenoma, the tumor cells of pleomorphic adenomas, and carcinoma arising in pleomorphic adenoma. STUDY DESIGN A selected series of 29 cases of pleomorphic adenomas, and 27 cases of carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma (undifferentiated and...
The most common benign salivary gland tumor is pleomorphic adenoma. They can attain giant proportions and weigh several kilograms. They can cause facial disfigurement and, if untreated, could lead malignant transformation. This image depicts a 7.5 kg pleomorphic adenoma of right submandibular gland with malignant change in a 55-year-old male.
Pleomorphic adenoma is one of the most frequent tumors that involve the parotid gland. The tumor constantly increases in dimension if not cured in due time and may become malignant. A case of a patient suffering from a carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma that had a 20-year-evolution and reached impressive dimensions is presented. The tumor holds the second place worldwide among the largest carcino...
INTRODUCTION Pleomorphic adenomas are tumors mostly originating from salivary glands. These lesions in the larynx are very rare. CASE REPORT We report a rare case of pleomorphic adenoma that originated from the mucosal lining, just above the glottic area at the level of the laryngeal ventricle in a 55-year-old female patient. The tumor could not be palpated easily but was observed in the CT s...
Our study is aimed to characterize alteration in the immunohistochemical expression of p21 and p53 in normal tissue of the salivary gland surrounding carcinoma arising in pleomorphic adenoma, and the tumor cells of carcinoma arising in pleomorphic adenoma as well as to identify whether the induction of expression p21 is dependent on or independent of p53 in carcinoma arising in pleomorphic aden...
Mammary mixed tumours are the most frequent neoplasias in female dogs. In humans, mixed tumours are frequently found in the salivary glands and are known as pleomorphic adenomas. In addition to their histomorphologic similarities, mixed tumours and pleomorphic adenomas have the potential to become malignant and give rise to carcinomas in mixed tumours and carcinomas ex-pleomorphic adenoma, resp...
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to characterize alteration in the immunohistochemical expression of pRb in normal tissue of the salivary gland surrounding pleomorphic adenoma, the tumor cells of pleomorphic adenomas, and carcinoma arising in pleomorphic adenoma. STUDY DESIGN A selected series of 29 cases of pleomorphic adenomas, and 27 cases of carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma (undifferentiated an...
Pleomorphic adenomas with a nuclear palisading arrangement of spindle-shaped modified myoepithelial cells (MMCs), suggesting the appearance of palisading leiomyoma or Antoni's A type of neurilemmoma, are quite rare, and its cytologic nature has been poorly understood. This paper reports histologic and immunohistochemical findings of palisading MMCs in two cases of pleomorphic adenoma. Histologi...
BACKGROUND Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma is a rare histologic subtype of salivary gland cancer with an overall poor prognosis. Limited histopathologic analyses have shown that some such tumors exhibit significant HER2/neu immunoreactivity, suggesting a potential role for HER2-based therapy. We report here a case of a 58-year old man with metastatic carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma who achiev...
