In this experiment we observe the distribution of radiation emitted by a Cs source. Using a scintillation counter, we count the number of gamma rays emitted by the radiation source at four different mean count rates: 1 sec−1, 4 sec−1, 10 sec−1, and 100 sec−1. From this we can plot the distribution of counts/sec versus the frequency of count rate. We find the distributions for the different mean...

We show that the Poisson–Dirichlet distribution is the distribution of points in a scale-invariant Poisson process, conditioned on the event that the sum T of the locations of the points in (0,1] is 1. This extends to a similar result, rescaling the locations by T , and conditioning on the event that T 6 1. Restricting both processes to (0, β] for 0 < β 6 1, we give an explicit formula for the ...

The bivariate Poisson distribution is a popular distribution for modeling bivariate count data. Its basic assumptions and marginal equi-dispersion, however, may prove limiting in some contexts. To allow for data dispersion, we develop here a bivariate Conway–Maxwell–Poisson (COM–Poisson) distribution that includes the bivariate Poisson, bivariate Bernoulli, and bivariate geometric distributions...
