background and objectives: heavy metals are considered as high risk biocides due to their harmful effects on human health, the environment and other living organisms. bacterial strains showing resistance to heavy metals has been used for removing such toxic materials from the environment. in this study we isolated and characterized a heavy metals-resistance halophilic bacterial strains from kal...

In the present study, ten RAPD primers were used to assess molecular polymorphism in twenty Jatropha curcas genotypes. A total of 47 amplified products were obtained out of which 44 were polymorphic and 3 were monomorphic. Average polymorphism across twenty genotypes was found to be 93.61 %. For the genotypes tested, 6 to 11 bands were obtained, with an average of 7.83 bands per primer. The siz...

BACKGROUND Ovarian cancer remains still the leading cause of death of gynecological malignancy, in spite of first-line chemotherapy with cisplatin and paclitaxel. Although initial response is favorably, relapses are common and prognosis for women with advanced disease stays poor. Therefore efficacious approaches are needed. METHODS Previously, an anti-cancer agent, EPD exhibited potent cytoto...

Background & objectives: statistical modeling explicates the observed changes in data by means of mathematics equations. In cases that dependent variable is count, Poisson model is applied. If Poisson model is not applicable in a specific situation, it is better to apply the generalized Poisson model. So, our emphasis in this study is to notice the data structure, introducing the generalized Po...

BACKGROUND Research evidence suggests that journal clubs (JCs) are one approach which can be used to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice. However, there are issues which potentially threaten their viability such as on-going participation or compliance with attendance, which require further exploration. The objectives of this study are: to explore the views and perspectives of ...

For a given hyperelliptic curve C over finite field with Jacobian JC, we consider the analogue of congruential generator defined by Wn = Wn? 1 + D for n ? and D, W0 ? JC. We show that curves genus 2 produce sequences large linear complexity.

JC virus is most commonly acquired during childhood, and no clinical illness has been associated with primary infection, which is assumed to be asymptomatic. The only disease associated with JC virus to date is progressive multifocal leucoencephalopathy (PML), which is usually caused by viral reactivation in immunocompromised adults. A chronic meningoencephalitis associated with an active JC vi...

Recent studies have identified a Pacific lineage (2E) of JC polyomavirus (also designated as JC virus or JCV) that occurs in both Island Southeast Asia and Oceania, but not in mainland Asia. It has been postulated that this lineage traveled with Austronesian-speaking people who are now spread throughout Island Southeast Asia and Oceania (excluding Australia and inland and southern New Guinea). ...

The Liu estimator has consistently been demonstrated to be an attractive shrinkage method for reducing the effects of multicollinearity. The Poisson regression model is a well-known model in applications when the response variable consists of count data. However, it is known that multicollinearity negatively affects the variance of the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of the Poisson regressio...

Serological data accumulated during the past decade indicated that a variety of feral and domestic animals of the Delaware-Maryland-Virginia (DelMarVa) Peninsula were infected with Jamestown Canyon (JC) and/or Keystone (KEY) viruses (Bunyaviridae, California serogroup). Neutralizing (N) antibody to JC virus was most prevalent in white-tailed deer, sika deer, cottontail rabbits and horses. KEY v...
