Abstract Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers and fabrics are widely used for medical device applications such as vascular anterior cruciate ligament prostheses. Several years ago, we began functionalizing PET using anionic polymers to enhance their biocompatibility, cell adhesion, proliferation functional performance Polymer functionalization followed a grafting-from process from virgin sur...

Polymer brushes consisting of polystyrene (PS) chains bonded covalently to N-doped multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNx) were synthesized by a "grafting from" route using nitroxide mediated radical polymerization (NMRP).

A new synthesis of bis(acyl)phosphane oxide (BAPO) photoinitiators was developed which can be used to functionalize cellulose nanocrystal surfaces for polymer grafting. Hybrid materials with excellent graft yields can be rapidly obtained under mild and acid-free conditions.

We examine the structure of densely grafted polymer layers grown from the surfaces of spherical nanoparticles over a broad range of graft densities and chain lengths. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) experiments show that the hydrodynamic thickness of the polymer layer, h, scales as h N for short chains and high grafting densities, that is, in the concentrated polymer brush (CPB) regime, whereas ...

A grand challenge in materials chemistry is the synthesis of macromolecules and polymers with precise shapes and architectures. In this work, we describe a hybrid synthetic strategy to produce structurally defined branched polymer architectures based on chemically modified DNA. Overall, this approach enables precise control over branch placement, grafting density, and chemical identity of side ...

The aim of the research work was to chemically modify guar gum(GG) as a pH sensitive co-polymer and formulating intestinal targeting ESO nanoparticles (NPs) using the synthesized co-polymer. Poly acrylamide-grafted-guar gum (PAAm-g-GG) co-polymer was synthesized by free radical polymerization. Chemical modification of PAAm-g-GG by alkaline hydrolysis results in formation of a pH-sensitive co-po...

Polymer layer growth by free radical graft polymerization (FRGP) and controlled nitroxide-mediated graft polymerization (NMGP) of polystyrene was achieved by atmospheric pressure hydrogen plasma surface activation of silicon. Kinetic polystyrene layer growth by atmospheric pressure plasma-induced FRGP (APPI-FRGP) exhibited a maximum surface-grafted layer thickness (125 A after 20 h) at an initi...
