optimal reactive power dispatch (orpd) is a multi-variable problem with nonlinear constraints and continuous/discrete decision variables. due to the stochastic behavior of loads, the orpd requires a probabilistic mathematical model. in this paper, monte carlo simulation (mcs) is used for modeling of load uncertainties in the orpd problem. the problem is formulated as a nonlinear constrained mul...

In this paper the concept of prob'abilistic events is introduced and their closure properties under the operations on the set of all fuzzy events are studied. I t is shown that the mean of probabilistie events is a probabilistie event and the set of all probabilistie events is closed under the transposition and the operation of the convex-combination. A sufficient conditioll for the union and t...

A large corpus has been created automatically and read by 100 speakers. Phrase boundaries were labeled in the sentences automatically during sentence generation. Perception experiments on a subset of 500 utterances showed a high agreement between the automatically generated boundary markers and the ones perceived by listeners. Gaussian distribution and polynomial classiiers were trained on a se...

We examine a graphical representation of uncertain knowledge called a Bayesian network. The representation is easy to construct and interpret, yet has formal probabilistic semantics making it suitable for statistical manipulation. We show how we can use the representation to learn new knowledge by combining domain knowledge with statistical data.

Some intuitive normative principles raise vexing ‘detaching problems’ by their failure to license modus ponens. I examine three such principles (a self-reliance principle and two different instrumental principles) and recent stategies employed to resolve their detaching problems. I show that solving these problems necessitates postulating an indefinitely large number of senses for ‘ought’. The ...
