Osteoarthritis of the intertarsal and tarsometatarsal joints (bone spavin) is a common cause of lameness in all types of equine athletes; however, it is particularly prevalent among Western performance horses. Osteoarthritis of the proximal interphalangeal joint (high ringbone), although is less common among equine athletes, is also a frequent cause of lameness in several breeds. Osteoarthritis...
There are different biometric modalities used to identify person which includes palmprint, face, fingerprint, iris and hand geometry. Apart from these biometric modalities, finger knuckle print also used as one of the cost effective biometric identifier. Finger knuckle print is defined by the back side of fingers. On the back side of fingers there are three joints named as Metacarpophalangeal (...
BACKGROUND Sports-related open lateral collateral ligament injury of the interphalangeal joint of the great toe has not been previously described in the English literature. HYPOTHESIS This injury can occur in adolescents while performing barefooted high-kicking or fast-running exercises involving rapid, 180 degrees turns on a dry, rough, wooden floor in a Taekwondo gymnasium. Injury occurs wh...
Numerous techniques for injection into the distal sesamoid bursa (navicular bursa) have been described, especially in equine, but there are few specific descriptions regarding this practice being done in cattle. Five different techniques were compared for injection into the distal sesamoid bursa in cattle including distal plantar approach parallel with the coronary band, proximal plantar approa...
BACKGROUND In Dupuytren's disease (DD), limited fasciectomy is the mainstay of surgical therapy in patients at risk of contractures and disease recurrences. New minimally invasive treatments such as injection of collagenase clostridium histolyticum have evolved as a common tool for the preliminary treatment of Dupuytren's contractures. However, recurrences and their therapy remain controversial...
Camptodactyly is the name introduced by Landouzy (1906) for one of the varieties of constitutionally crooked digits. Camptodactyly almost always affects the fifth finger, the characteristic lesion being a flexion contracture of the proximal interphalangeal joint. The degree of flexion may vary from a very slight deformity to an almost right-angled bend; it is seldom more than this. The fourth t...
Surgical arthrodesis is effective for treating proximal interphalangeal joint (PIJ) injuries in horses. Despite several techniques described so far, the use of a 3-hole, 4.5mm-locking compression plate, associated with two 5.5-mm transarticular cortex screws, currently considered “gold standard.” This review describes anatomy pastern, as well causes, indications, and possibilities equine PIJ. A...
Open dislocation of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint is relatively rare. We report a case of a 32-year-old man who had open dislocation of the PIP joint of the little finger while playing American football. He had a history of chronic radial collateral ligament injury. We reconstructed the radial collateral ligament with a half-slip of the flexor digitorum superficialis tendon.
