Low resolution iris image can degrade the performance of iris recognition. A new iris image zooming method by using edge-directed image upsampling method based on radial basis function (RBF) interpolation [9] is proposed to restore a single iris image into a highresolution image. By increasing the resolution of iris image, we found that the performance of iris recognition was increased.

Radial basis functions (RBFs) form a primary tool for multivariate interpolation, and they are also receiving increased attention for solving PDEs on irregular domains. Traditionally, only non-oscillatory radial functions have been considered. We find here that a certain class of oscillatory radial functions (including Gaussians as their limiting case) leads to non-singular interpolants with in...

We show how conditionally negative deenite functions on spheres coupled with strictly completely monotone functions (or functions whose derivative is strictly completely monotone) can be used for Hermite interpolation. The classes of functions thus obtained have the advantage over the strictly positive deenite functions studied in 17] that closed form representations (as opposed to series expan...

In this paper, a numerical method is proposed for solving optimal control problem of Volterra integral equations using radial basis functions (RBFs) for approximating unknown function. Actually, the method is based on interpolation by radial basis functions including multiquadrics (MQs), to determine the control vector and the corresponding state vector in linear dynamic system while minimizing...

In this paper we give an overview of the variational approach to interpolation. Our particular interest is in the theory of radial basis functions, which include natural splines as a special case. Our approach is expository, seeking to put into a general framework seemly disparate results. However, at the end of the paper we do provide some glimpses of new results.

This article describes an approach based on hierarchical radial basis functions to reconstruction and modification of motion / image data, which are formulated as problems of scattered data interpolation. Assuming little about the data and choosing highly scalable / well adjustable basis functions, the approach can handle both the reconstruction and the manipulation in a unified and widely appl...

Interpolation by translates of \radial" basis functions is optimal in the sense that it minimizes the pointwise error functional among all comparable quasi{interpolants on a certain \native" space of functions F . Since these spaces are rather small for cases where is smooth, we study the behavior of interpolants on larger spaces of the form F 0 for less smooth functions 0. It turns out that in...

Finding the interpolation function of a given set of nodes is an important problem in scientific computing. In this work a kind of localization is introduced using the radial basis functions which finds a sufficiently smooth solution without consuming large amount of time and computer memory. Some examples will be presented to show the efficiency of the new method. Keywords—Radial basis functio...

The Hermite Radial Basis Functions (HRBF) Implicits reconstruct an implicit function which interpolates or approximates scattered multivariate Hermite data (i.e., unstructured points and their corresponding normals). Experiments suggest that HRBF Implicits allow the reconstruction of surfaces rich in details and behave better than previous related methods under coarse and/or nonuniform sampling...
