isolation of rat islets of langerhans was carried out by using collagenase and the destruction of exocrine tissue was performed through the injection of hanks' solution into the common bile duct. the identification of the islets was done by techniques including the use of a stereomicroscope against a black background. vital staining was done by an injection of neutral red solution through ...

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a common, acquired tumor-like growth occurring on skin/mucous membranes. It is prevalent in the pediatric age group. It is benign in nature and is caused by chronic low grade trauma. It presents as pink to red elevated pedunculated or sessile mass. There are various treatment modalities including surgery, cryotherapy, laser, electrocautery, etc. However, the therapeut...

During the course of a study of skin blood flow under applied external pressure, it became apparent that decreasing blood flow by loading the skin surface reveals problems that are fundamental to the method of laser Doppler flowmetry. These problems have to do with the fact that the laser Doppler is extremely sensitive to red cell motion of any kind, whether associated with the ordered red cell...

In this work, efficient visible Ho3+-doped fluorozirconate glass (Ho:ZBLAN) all-fiber lasers operating in continuous-wave (CW) and Q-switching regimes are experimentally demonstrated. The combination of a direct blue pump, a highly-doped Ho:ZBLAN fiber and the fiber end-facet mirrors contributes to a simple all-fiber configuration. A tunable laser emission in the green spectral range of 543-550...

PURPOSE To evaluate in a retrospective study the long-term usefulness of red 647 nm krypton and 670 nm diode laser for transscleral contact cyclophotocoagulation (CPC) in the treatment of therapy-resistant inflammatory glaucoma. METHODS The authors treated 48 eyes of 38 consecutive patients (mean age 36.8 years, range 6-81 years) with therapy-resistant inflammatory glaucoma secondary to chron...

PURPOSE To evaluate a spectral imaging technique to detect the area of internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling after vitrectomy for idiopathic macular hole. MATERIALS AND METHODS In a prospective study, 15 eyes of 15 patients with idiopathic macular holes were tested. After vitrectomy with ILM peeling, retinal images were taken with color fundus photography, red-free fundus photography, and ...

We examined five nucleic acid binding fluorescent dyes, propidium iodide, SYBR Green I, YO-PRO-1, TOTO-3, and TO-PRO-3, for nuclear DNA staining, visualized by fluorescence and laser confocal microscopy. The optimal concentration, co-staining of RNA, and bleaching speeds were examined. SYBR Green I and TO-PRO-3 almost preferentially stained the nuclear DNA, and the other dyes co-stained the cyt...

BACKGROUND Photodynamic therapy is a therapeutic modality that has consolidated its activity in the photooxidation of organic matter, which arises from the activity of reactive oxygen species. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of red laser 660nm with the photosensitizer methylene blue on Propionibacterium acnes in vitro. METHOD The experimental design was distributed into four groups (1 - co...

Intense coherent laser radiation red-detuned from absorption edge can reactively activate sizable Hall-type charge and spin transport in n-doped paramagnetic semiconductors as a consequence of k-space Berry curvature transferred from the valence band to the photon-dressed conduction band. In the presence of disorder, the optically induced Hall conductance can change sign with laser intensity.

Chalcogenopyrylium nanotags demonstrate an unprecedented SERS performance with a retina safe, 1550 nm laser excitation. These unique nanotags consisting of chalcogenopyrylium dyes and 100 nm gold nanoparticles produce exceptional SERS signals with picomolar detection limits obtained at this extremely red-shifted and eye-safe laser excitation.
