We find more self-tuning solutions by introducing a general form for Lagrangian of a 3-index antisymmetric tensor field AMNP in the RS II model. In particular, for the logarithmic Lagrangian, ∝ log(−H2), we obtained a closed form weak self-tuning solution.

Experimental evidences [1-5] indicate that orientation selectivity develops in the absence of visual experience. Here, we present a model for pre-eye opening development of orientation selectivity. The model essentially models layer IV cortical cells and confirms the poor orientation tuning observed in layer IV ceCls. We also show that post synaptic potential to spike transformation indeed play...

This paper addresses the problem of position tracking control of robot manipulators in the presence of parametric uncertainty and additive periodic disturbances. Specifically, a self tuning, Lyapunov-based adaptive controller with desired dynamics compensation term and a disturbance estimator has been designed to ensure that the link position tracking error converges to zero asymptotically, des...

The enormous and growing complexity of today's high-end systems has increased the already significant challenges of obtaining high performance on today's equally complex scientific applications. Application scientists are faced with a daunting challenge in tuning their codes to exploit performance-enhancing architectural features. The Performance Engineering Research Institute (PERI) is working...

The active power filter has gained much more attention because of its effective performance to mitigate the harmonics. This paper presents shunt active power filter (SAPF) controlled by PI controller to compensate the harmonics. Also, it introduces a new artificial intelligent technique called Bacterial Foraging Optimization to optimize the parameters of the PI-controller through on-line self-a...

We show that a self-tuning mechanism of the cosmological constant could work in 5D non-compact space with Z 2 symmetry with scalar kinetic energy term. The standard model matter fields live only on the 4 dimensional (4D) brane. The change of vacuum energy on the brane (brane cosmological constant) by, for instance, electroweak and QCD phase transitions, just gives rise to dynamical shifts of th...

We consider an infinite-volume brane world setup where a codimension one brane is coupled to bulk gravity plus a scalar field with vanishing potential. The latter is protected by bulk supersymmetry, which is intact even if brane supersymmetry is completely broken as the volume of the extra dimension is infinite. Within this setup we discuss a flat solution with a “self-tuning” property, that is...

We show that a self-tuning mechanism of the cosmological constant could work in 5D non-compact space-time with a Z 2 symmetry in the presence of a massless scalar field. The standard model matter fields live only on the 4D brane. The change of vacuum energy on the brane (brane cosmological constant) by, for instance, electroweak and QCD phase transitions, just gives rise to dynamical shifts of ...

Reconfigurable microwave filters make microwave transceivers adaptable to multiple bands of operation using a single filter, which is highly desirable in today’s communications with evermore growing wireless applications. Tunable filters can replace the necessity of switching between several filters to have more than one filter response by introducing tuning elements embedded into a filter topo...
