We present a 13-year-old child who admitted with a dull right upper quadrant pain that started 3 weeks before her referral. Several medications were given but they did not change the intensity and the frequency of the pain. Her physical examination was nonspecific except for slight right upper quadrant tenderness. The imaging studies revealed a sewing pin perforating the stomach and gallbladder...
We observe a sharp feature in the ultra-low-temperature magnetoconductivity of degenerately doped Ge:Sb at H-25 kOe, which is robust up to at least three times the critical density for the insulator-metal transition. This field corresponds to a low-energy scale characteristic of the special nature of antimony donors in germanium. Its presence and sensitivity to uniaxial stress confirm the notio...
We present an unusual and a rare case study of a 45-year-old woman who had swallowed a sharp pointed metallic foreign body while eating meat. The foreign body had migrated from the cricopharynx through the parapharyngeal space and penetrated the internal jugular vein over a period of 10 days presenting as a tender neck swelling. The management of this case is discussed here in brief.
We demonstrate the coupling of multipolar surface plasmons with photonic modes in periodic arrays of metallic nanoantennas. This coupling leads to sharp resonances known as lattice surface modes. In spite of the weak interaction of multipolar surface plasmons with light, lattice surface modes provide an efficient radiative decay channel for emitters in the proximity of the array. We observe a t...
Hot electrons and optical emission are measured from the rear surface of a metallic foil. The spectra of the optical emission in the near infrared region have a sharp spike around the wavelength of the incident laser pulse. The optical emission is ascribed to coherent transition radiation due to microbunching in the hot electron beam. It is found that the optical emission closely correlates wit...
Large fluctuations of conductivity with time are observed in a low-mobility twodimensional electron system in silicon at low electron densities ns and temperatures. A dramatic increase of the noise power (∝ 1/fα) as ns is reduced below a certain density ng, and a sharp jump of α at ns ≈ ng, are attributed to the freezing of the electron glass at ns = ng. The data strongly suggest that glassy dy...

We consider a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) such that tunneling occurs through two atomically sharp protrusions on its tip. When the two protrusions are separated by at least several atomic spacings, the differential conductance of this STM depends on the electronic transport in the sample between the protrusions. Such two-protrusion tips commonly occur during STM tip preparation. We expl...
Photoelectric observations of short term light variations (shadow bands) at the 16 Feb. 1980 total solar eclipse have been made using a set of spatially separated PIN diodes. Light variations in a bandpass of 1-500 Hz were detected during the half-minutes preceding and following the total phase. Fourier analysis of the noise spectrum of the variations reveals a sharp drop-off for frequencies ab...
