Converting biomass into value-added chemicals is of significant interest and we report an efficient hydrosilylation to convert levulinic acid γ-valerolactone using cost-effective silanes such as PMHS TMDS with B(C6F5)3 catalyst. This metal free methodology works at room temperature reaching TONs TOFs up 16000 2000 h−1. Insights the reaction mechanism are reported.

Comparative studies on chlorination and methylation reactions have been carried out to afford chloromethyl(methyl)silanes. For chlorination reactions, three types of initiators, viz., azobisisobutyronitrile, benzoyl peroxide and dicumyl peroxide have been studied at different reaction conditions, e.g., solvent, temperature, time duration of reaction and molar ratio of reactants in view to get o...

Several types of common polymers were deposited on glass slides sililated with organofunctional silanes. The extent of surface coverage, adsorbed layer thickness and topology were experimentally determined. The strength of polymer interaction with the silane treated glass was investigated using contact-mode AFM. The interaction strength to the surface was found to be dominated by hydrophobic/hy...

We show that individual, isolated graphene nanoribbons, created with a molecular synthetic approach, can be assembled on functionalised wafer surfaces treated with silanes. The use of surface groups with different hydrophobicities allows tuning the density of the ribbons and assessing the products of the polymerisation process.

A novel osmium-catalysed oxidative cyclisation of 1,2-diols bearing a pendant vinyl silane affords THFs that contain silicon functionality at the ring junction. When the cyclisation occurs onto a vinyl benzyldimethylsilyl group, the resulting silyl group can act as a masked hydroxyl group and undergo a Fleming-Tamao type oxidation at a later stage to form the corresponding lactol. The scope of ...

Substituted silacyclohexenes, generated through silene-diene [4 + 2] cycloaddition reactions, undergo Lewis acid promoted Sakurai type reactions with acetals to afford, following oxidation of the resultant fluorosilane, 1,4-diols with four contiguous chiral centres.

DOI: 10.1002/adfm.200900120 A strong modification of the electronic properties of solution-processable conjugated polythiophenes by self-assembled silane molecules is reported. Upon bulk doping with hydrolized fluoroalkyl trichlorosilane, the electrical conductivity of ultrathin polythiophene films increases by up to six orders of magnitude, reaching record values for polythiophenes: (1.1 0.1) ...

Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) containing vinyl-, propyl-, isobutyl- and phenyl functionalized monolayers were reported. These functionalized MSNs were prepared via molecular self-assembly of organosilanes on the mesoporous supports. The relative surface coverage of the organic monolayers can reach up to 100% (about 5.06 silanes/nm.
