Perceived blur is an important measure of image quality and clinical visual function. The magnitude of image blur varies across space and time under natural viewing conditions owing to changes in pupil size and accommodation. Blur is frequently studied in the laboratory with a variety of digital filters, without comparing how the choice of filter affects blur perception. We examine the percepti...

This paper presents the application of Sinc method to solve second order two-point boundary value problems based on derivative interpolation. Even in the presence of singularities, the Sinc numerical method is known to exhibit exponential convergence, resulting in highly accurate solutions. However, the customary approach of interpolating the solution variable with the Sinc bases requires first...

We address a problem of sampling and reconstructing periodic piecewise polynomials based on the theory for signals with a finite rate of innovation (FRI signals) from samples acquired by a sinc kernel. This problem was discussed in a previous paper. There was, however, an error in a condition about the sinc kernel. Further, even though the signal is represented by parameters, these explicit val...

We resolve and further study a sinc integral evaluation, first posed in this Monthly in [1967, p. 1015], which was solved in [1968, p. 914] and withdrawn in [1970, p. 657]. After a short introduction to the problem and its history, we give a general evaluation which we make entirely explicit in the case of the product of three sinc functions. Finally, we exhibit some more general structure of t...

In former articles we have given a formula for the error committed when interpolating a several times differentiable function by the sinc interpolant on a fixed finite interval. In the present workwe demonstrate the relevance of the formula through several applications: correction of the interpolant through the insertion of derivatives to increase its order of convergence, improvement of the ba...

The Source Galerkin method finds approximate solutions to the functional differential equations of field theories in the presence of external sources. While developing this process, it was recognized that approximations of the spectral representations of the Green’s functions by Sinc function expansions are an extremely powerful calculative tool. Specifically, this understanding makes it not on...

BACKGROUND Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is used as a fast clinical imaging technique for monitoring the health of the human organs such as lungs, heart, brain and breast. Each practical EIT reconstruction algorithm should be efficient enough in terms of convergence rate, and accuracy. The main objective of this study is to investigate the feasibility of precise empirical conductivity i...

The polynomial of degree n which is the best approximation of the sinc function on the interval 0, π/2 with the square norm is considered. By using Lagrange's method of multipliers, we construct the polynomial explicitly. This method is also generalized to the continuous function on the closed interval a, b. Numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness.

In this paper we solve two biharmonic problems over a square, B = (−1, 1) × (−1, 1). (1) The problem ∇4U = f , for which we determine a particular solution, U , given f , via use of Sinc convolution; and (2) The boundary value problem ∇4V = 0 for which we determine V given V = g and normal derivative Vn = h on ∂B, the boundary of B. The solution to this problem is carried out based on the identity

We present one of the most efficient attacks against the combination generator. This attack is inherent to this system as its only assumption is that the filtering function has a good autocorrelation. This is usually the case if the system is designed to be resistant to other kinds of attacks. We use only classical tools, namely vectorial correlation, weight 4 multiples and Walsh transform.
