Splenic involvements in Wegener's granulomatosis (WG) are rarely diagnosed ante-mortem, while an autopsy is able to reveal a high rate of spleen lesions (78-100%). To date, there have been a few reported cases of splenic abnormalities in WG, including: splenomegaly, capsular adhesion, dysfunction and infarction. We reported a case of biopsy-verified WG with radiological evidence of diffuse sple...

We report a case of a 21-year-old shepherd who presented with fever, left hypochondrium pain and splenomegaly. Blood tests showed thrombocytopenia and high liver enzymes. Computed tomography scan revealed the presence of hypodense lesions suggestive of splenic infarction. Echocardiography was without abnormalities. Laboratory evaluation for thrombophilia was negative. A bone marrow aspiration a...

Isolated spontaneous dissection of the celiac trunk is rarely diagnosed in acute abdominal pain. We present two cases of celiac trunk and splenic artery dissection with splenic infarction. Patients were successfully managed and stabilized by medical treatment. Isolated celiac trunk dissection can be fatal, therefore providers should be careful not to overlook this entity.

In Sickle cell disease (SCD) patients, the spleen commonly enlarges during the first two decades of life but then undergoes auto-splenectomy due to repeated attacks of vaso-occlusion and infarction. This, however, is not the case in Saudi patients with SCD, where Splenomegaly sometimes persists into adult life. Sickle cell disease (SCD) is one of the commonly inherited diseases in the Eastern P...

O f patients with left-sided endocarditis 20 47% have septic embolization to the spleen with varying degrees of clinical presentation. The natural history varies based on the size and location of the infarct. Larger and more peripheral infarctions are more prone to form abscesses and cause splenic rupture, whereas smaller infarcts may go largely unnoticed and only be detected on incidental imag...

BACKGROUND Wandering spleen is a rare clinical condition caused by incomplete fusion of the 4 primary splenic ligaments, allowing the spleen to be mobile within the abdomen, predisposing to splenic torsion along the vascular pedicle leading to splenomegaly and infarction, often diagnosed in an emergency setting. METHODS The wandering spleen diagnosis was achieved by ultrasound in our case. We...

Inflammation plays a crucial role in cardiovascular disease. For example, inflammatory monocytes, after being recruited to atherosclerotic plaques, secrete proteinases that erode the fibrous cap. This may lead to plaque rupture and subsequent myocardial infarction (MI). Patients with acute myocardial infarction have elevated levels of blood leukocytes [1]. Peripheral blood leukocyte count after...
