We distinguish three prevalent spatial data types, defined by the topology of the entity to which the recorded information refers. These are point, lines and area. Features having a specific location, but without extent in any direction are considered as points. A pair of coordinates represents a point. Village locations, industrial locations, cities etc. are the examples of the point data. Lin...

Where fuzzy regression can be applied and, in which conditions fuzzy regression method more appropriate tool for the investigations are identified in this paper. The contrast between fuzzy regression and ordinary regression analysis and three approach of fuzzy regression are summarized. In this paper, we estimated the values of the parameters in the factorial experiment in the textile industry ...

While computed tomography and other imaging techniques are measured in absolute units with physical meaning, magnetic resonance images are expressed in arbitrary units that are difficult to interpret and differ between study visits and subjects. Much work in the image processing literature on intensity normalization has focused on histogram matching and other histogram mapping techniques, with ...

The interdisciplinary field of Data Mining (DM) arises from the confluence of statistics and machine learning (artificial intelligence). It provides a technology that helps to analyze and understand the information contained in a database, and it has been used in a large number of fields or applications. Specifically, the concept DM derives from the similarity between the search for valuable in...

Segmentation is performed in recognition applications as a primary step towards extraction of interesting regions of an image. In this paper, the characteristic effects of Weibull and Fractal parameters in the segmentation of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Optical images acquired from satellite platform is studied. The algorithms are tested for different window sizes and different number of...

Inter- and intra-observer variation in measuring the depth of invasion of malignant melanomas was assessed using three different techniques: eye-piece graticule, stage Vernier, and projection image analysis. Significant variation was found for all methods but was least pronounced with the stage Vernier. It is recommended that this should be the preferred technique for routine use.

Developing cost models for query optimization is significantly harder for XML queries than for traditional relational queries. The reason is that XML query operators are much more complex than relational operators such as table scans and joins. In this paper, we propose a new approach, called Comet, to modeling the cost of XML operators; to our knowledge, Comet is the first method ever proposed...
