We report a six-month-old febrile infant presenting with stridor. Later on, he developed typical Kawasaki disease with giant aneurysm of the coronary artery with thrombosis that resolved with an aggressive anticoagulation therapy. The giant aneurysm still persisted a year later. Respiratory illness with stridor is an unusual presentation of Kawasaki disease.
In this issue of Indian Pediatrics, Sinha, et al.(1) have reported the results of a single center randomized controlled trial evaluating aerosolized L-epinephrine vs budesonide for the treatment of post-extubation stridor. While the benefits of intravenous corticosteroids on postextubation stridor are still unclear(2), the authors propose inhaled steroids may provide similar action to intraveno...
A patient is described with idiopathic Parkinson's disease and severe laryngeal stridor. Other than urinary frequency and urgency, not uncommon in this condition, and postoperative levodopa-sensitive postural hypotension, there were no features of generalized autonomic failure. The laryngeal stridor responded to levodopa therapy, and we are not aware that this has been reported previously.
Vallecular cyst is a rare cause of stridor in neonates, which may present as a life threatening airway obstruction. Here, we report a preterm infant with a congenital vallecular cyst who presented with stridor and respiratory distress that developed immediately after birth. She was successfully treated with endoscopic marsupialization.
INTRODUCTION Although cuff leak test has been proposed as a simple method of predicting the occurrence of postextubation stridor, cut-off point of cuff-leak volume substantially differs between previous studies. In addition, laryngeal ultrasonography including measurement of air column width could predict postextubation stridor. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the value of laryngea...
Achalasia is the failure of the relaxation of the lower oesophageal sphincter leading to oesopha-geal dilatation. Stridor is a rare and unusual symptom of achalasia due to tracheal compression by the dilated oesophagus. Early identification and management with urgent decompression should be undertaken to avoid life-threatening airway obstruction. A 93-year-old woman presented to the emergency d...
Stridor is a common presenting symptom in general practitioner office or accident emergency department in hospital. Parents or patients were anxious when they experienced the symptom. Quick and throughout evaluation of the patient is needed in all of the cases. In some of the cases, the diagnosis is benign in nature requiring conservative treatment. However, in hospital setting, we encountered ...
