An in situ thermal desorption study of solvated aluminum hydride (alane) by transmission electron microscopy and selected area diffraction has permitted characterisation of the structural and morphological changes during desorption of solvent and hydrogen in real-time; this powerful technique for studying hydrogen storage materials complements several others already employed.

This study describes the management and products of the Gasconne cattle in two neighbouring countries (Spainand France), as a model study in trans-border breeds, analysing if they are significantly different depending on the place where they are located. Fifty-seven Gasconne breeders were interviewed (32 inSpainand 25 inFrance). The survey examined several aspects of the productive farming syst...

This paper reviews several methods to associate transition relations to transition system specifications with negative premises in Plotkin’s structural operational style. Besides a formal comparison on generality and relative consistency, the methods are also evaluated on their taste in determining which specifications are meaningful and which are not. Additionally, this paper contributes a pro...

The synthesis and structural characterisation of the uranium(IV) amido-borohydrides (N'')2U{κ(2)-N(SiMe3)SiMe2CH2BBN-H} and U{κ(2)-N(SiMe3)SiMe2CH2BBN-H}2, and their activity as pre-catalysts for the polymerisation of isoprene are described.

Alkoxide-functionalized N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) stabilise the potassium-imidazole-2-ylidene fragment against 1,2 alkyl rearrangement reactions; this allows the first structural characterisation of a potassium NHC complex, which reveals distorted and unusual bonding interactions between the imidazole ring and the potassium cation.

The first example of an indium(i) halide complex, [InBr(tmeda)], has been prepared by the reversible dissolution of InBr in a tmeda-toluene mixture. The structural characterisation of the metastable compound shows it to be monomeric with weak InIn interactions in the solid state. In solution, it decomposes to either InBr or [In2Br4(tmeda)2].

The paper provides a structural characterisation of the reachable markings of Petri nets in which every transition has exactly one input place. As a corollary, the reachability problem for this class is proved to be NP-complete. Further consequences are: the uniform word problem for commutative context-free grammars is NP-complete; weak-bisimilarity is semidecidable for Basic Parallel Processes.

Reported herein are the synthesis, structural and magnetic characterisation of a dinuclear FeII triple helicate that displays an unprecedented reversible asymmetric high spin to low spin crossover characterised by a thermal hysteresis: indeed the high spin state can be recovered by white light irradiation at 10 K.

The synthesis and structural characterisation of a novel C3-symmetric tris-bidentate ligand, L, featuring a triphenylamine core appended by pyridylimine coordination sites is reported: 1H NMR compleximetric titration studies with Ag(I) and ESMS indicate the presence of [Ag3L2]3+ species in solution, consistent with the formation of a trinuclear double helicate complex: the Trinity helix.

Highly unusual Na(+) complexes with neutral tri- and tetra-amines are isolable in good yield from the reaction of NaBAr(F) with the amine in organic media. Structural characterisation reveals primary Na-N bonding, including an unusual sandwich cation [Na(Me3tacn)2](+), derived from homoleptic N6-coordination via two Me3-tacn ligands, and the distorted 5-coordinate [Na(thf)(Me4cyclam)](+).
