This paper proposes that the study of Sturm sequences is invaluable in the numerical computation and theoretical derivation of eigenvalue distributions of random matrix ensembles. We first explore the use of Sturm sequences to efficiently compute histograms of eigenvalues for symmetric tridiagonal matrices and apply these ideas to random matrix ensembles such as the 0-Hermite ensemble. Using ou...

In this paper, we studied q-analogue of Sturm–Liouville boundary value problem on a finite interval having discontinuity in an interior point. We proved that the q-Sturm–Liouville is self-adjoint modified Hilbert space. investigated spectral properties eigenvalues and eigenfunctions problem. shown are form complete system. Finally, sampling theorem for integral transforms whose kernels basic fu...

In this paper, we consider the application of the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) to compute the eigenvalues of the Sturm-Liouville problem (SLP) which is called non-definite SLP. Two important Examples show that HPM is reliable method for computing the eigenvalues of SLP.

Regular and singular Sturm-Liouville problems (SLP) are studied including the continuous and differentiable dependence of eigenvalues on the problem. Also initial value problems (IVP) are considered for the SL equation and for general first order systems.

We study the relationship between the eigenvalues of separated self-adjoint boundary conditions and coupled self-adjoint conditions. Given an arbitrary real coupled boundary condition determined by a coupling matrix K we construct a one parameter family of separated conditions and show that all the eigenvalues for K and −K are extrema of the eigencurves of this family. This characterization mak...

In recent years several high quality Sturm-Liouville software packages have been written (e.g., SLEDGE, SLEIGN, the NAG routine SL02FM). All excel at providing eigenfunction estimates at a nite set of points but only the NAG routine provides interpolation capability, and this by a fairly crude method (especially when compared with the sophistication of its eigenvalue solver). We describe an acc...

This paper examines and develops matrix methods to approximate the eigenvalues of a fourth order Sturm-Liouville problem subjected to a kind of fixed boundary conditions, furthermore, it extends the matrix methods for a kind of general boundary conditions. The idea of the methods comes from finite difference and Numerov’s method as well as boundary value methods for second order regular Sturm-L...

We nd the adjoint of the Askey-Wilson divided di erence operator with respect to the inner product on L 2 ( 1; 1; (1 x 2 ) 1=2 dx) de ned as a Cauchy principal value and show that the Askey-Wilson polynomials are solutions of a q-Sturm-Liouville problem. From these facts we deduce various properties of the polynomials in a simple and straightforward way. We also provide an operator theoretic de...

A higher order scheme is presented for the optimal correction method previously proposed by the authors for computing the 3-D position of corresponding points in a stereo image pair, and this method is compared with the Hartley-Sturm method. It is pointed out that the epipole is a singularity of the Harley-Sturm method, while the our method has no singularity. It is confirmed by numerical simul...
